How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

This could be caused by not enough air getting into the system, not enough fuel getting into the system, or the fuel/air mix not burning well enough once it gets into the cylinder. It`s probably a clogged air filter. Could also be a clogged fuel filter or a bad spark plug.
The most likely culprit is that the ignition switch is failing to ground properly. This is most likely due to poor connection. Clean the wires and connections, then try again, If it still doesn`t stop, you`ll need to replace the ignition itself.
When the clutch is disengaged (pedal depressed), an arm pushes a release bearing against the center of the diaphragm spring which releases the clamping pressure. When the clutch is not fully disengaging, the clutch is constantly slipping and burning up the friction materials.
Clutch pedals in manual cars stay on the floor if there`s a failed clutch release bearing, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, or clutch linkage.
A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die

By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel. Contrary to what the movies might make you think, gasoline itself is not very flammable.

The most likely cause of a no-start mower after running out of gas is dirt in the carburetor, but other possible causes include: Air locked gas system. Faulty carburetor. Contaminated gas.
Many walk-behind or push mowers have a built in self-propel system that consists of a series of pulleys, a small transmission and a belt drive. If you want to disconnect or disable the self-propel system on your lawn mower, you can easily do so by removing the drive belt that connects
You can push a self-propelled lawnmower, it won`t damage the transmission in any way. However, it may be difficult to do so, self propelled mowers are a little heavier than a regular push mower.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
If either of them are failing, they can both whine or cause a rotational noise, and they put additional drag on the engine while the clutch pedal is pressed, potentially causing the stalling you are experiencing. In both cases, the transmission (or engine) must be removed to repair this.
For instance, if a driver takes their foot off the clutch too quickly while stationary then the car will stall; taking the foot off the clutch slowly will stop this from happening. Stalling also happens when the driver forgets to depress the clutch and/or change to neutral while coming to a stop.
Answer and Explanation: The power flow stops at the transmission of the input shaft when the clutch is disengaged.

What to do when craftsman mower pull cord won’t recoil?
ANSWER : Sounds like the spring inside the recoil has either broken or let go so it won’t recoil. If you are lucky it could be the wheel that the cord goes on is seized or stuck. You can take the recoil off most mowers by taking out two or three screws and lifting it off the engine. They can be repaired but it takes time having to be careful the spring won’t spin and hurt you. I have even taken a recoil off another engine and if the holes for the little screws don’t line up just drill little holes beside the old ones and reinstall the little screws.
I even used a 18 volt cordless drill to crank the engine using the bolt on the fly wheel and the right size socket. Leaving the recoil off You have an electric start that way.

Lawn mower cranck but wont start…
ANSWER : Since you already checked for spark and air I would drain all the fuel out of it and check that fuel for water. Over time some lawn mowers end up with contaminated fuel. You can see the water sitting on the bottom of the fuel if you let it stand for a bit in a small plastic bowl.

Be sure to empty and dry out you fuel can as well. Especially if the mower stopped running right after a refuel. Which is a good sign your gas can is contaminated too.
