Its ment to.!!! that’s the job of a decompression button.
Procedure:
1.push on off switch into full choke position, depress the decompression button.
2.pull the saw over until it ‘fires’ once.
3. the decompression button would have popped back up, click the on/off switch up to half choke.
4.pull saw over and it should fire up, revving.! blip the throttle to return it to tick over.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

What Causes Chain Saw Kickback? There are two circumstances that can cause kickback when using a chain saw. The first occurs when the moving chain at the tip or the nose of the guide bar strikes an object. The second situation is when the wood closes in, pinching the saw chain in the middle of the cut.
A dirty carburetor, bad gasoline and low-quality two-stroke oil that creates deposits all contribute to chainsaw starting problems.
A decompression valve releases some of the compression from the combustion chamber during the starting procedure, making the engine easier to turn over when pulling the recoil rope.
By removing air from the cylinder at the peak of com- pression, the rebound effect of the compressed air is removed causing the engine to produce braking power. The absorbed power during compression is returned to the piston by the rebound of the expansion cycle.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
If your Stihl chainsaw starts up with a reassuring puttering sound, but dies when you pull the throttle trigger, there likely is an issue with the fuel, but the carburetor could need adjustment. If the saw stalls while it`s idling, it`s almost surely a misadjusted carburetor.
For most average-sized chainsaws a good compression reading should be around 110 PSI; for larger chainsaws, 160 PSI is better.
With the choke in the “off” position, pull the engine`s crank cord through again. The engine should start in 1 to 3 pulls. Try it first without using the throttle control—unless recommended by the manufacturer.
The innovative STIHL Easy2Start™ makes starting STIHL power tools easy and straight forward, without requiring a lot of effort.
Decompression valves reduce flow surges in a circuit. The valves shift, in response to pilot pressure or an electrical signal, and meter excess flow to tank. These valves can include a venting function, unloading pump output during start-up or idle portions of a machine cycle.
To make starting the STIHL 4-MIX engine easier, the engine has been fitted with a decompression system which extends the valve opening times when starting.

Why do I have hard time starting my ariens snowblower when cold?

Mower won’t start. Toro mower..engine won’t turn over. Cleaned sparkplug…checked air filter..weather cool. Followed instructions for cold engine…prime witrh three pushes of the bulb..wnon’t even hint at a start..
ANSWER : Something everyone over looks is oil. Did you check the oil? You seemed to mention everything else but. If you have a low oil switch with low oil it will not start
My MTD yard machine has a briggs & stratton motor. It is having issues starting up. Whenever the battery has juice the mower tries to start itself repeatedly even without a key in the ignition. I disconnected the ingition switch and it still tries to start up. If I let it try to start for too long it will start to smoke from the ignition on the motor. The other odd thing is that when it tries to start it moves the blade as well even with the blade in the off position or if hold the blade safety switch down my self. Also, before it started trying to start itself it wouldn’t make any attempt to start unless the blade was pulled back further than off. Any Ideas what is wrong?
Does not run, will start with starting fluid – Mantis 2-Cycle Tiller
ANSWER : You should never use starting fluid on this model.
Add a couple of ounces of 100% acetone (available at Walmart) to some fresh fuel. Attempt to start for several pulls. Let sit for several minutes and repeat until it sounds like it wants to run.
Then watch this video and do it:

While trying to start the saw the compression is so great that it is near imposible to pull the start rope ….ie won’t spin fast enough to start … new plug ,,,, new gas …..no start ,,,tired arm ,??????
ANSWER : Is there a compression release button?
I have a troy bilt pressure washer model 020207 with a Briggs quantum 6.75 H.P. engine. Once you get it started, it runs just fine, but its very hard to start. I cleaned the carburetor thoroughly but its still not easy to start. I watched this video on carb cleaning an quantum engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArCAivgAyww&list=TL1NcTIRQb_TY The plug is new. It does not have a primer bulb. Only a choke and a throttle adjustment. When you put on the choke, it will try to start, you can hear it pop off a bit, but not enough to fire up. After a few attempts on full choke it won’t pop anymore, so i move it to about half choke and it does the same thing – pops off a bit but won’t fire enough to stay running. The same things happen when the choke is off completely. Sometimes i can get it going if i continue long enough, but most of the time i have to use starting fluid to jump start it. It acts as though it needs a primer bulb but this model is not equipped with one. I am looking for any suggestions that might help get this pressure washer starting normally. Thanks!
Strimmer wont start plug very dry when i remove it?
ANSWER : Sounds like the gas is not getting to the cylinder—remove carb and disassemble–make sure all jets are clear and the float valve moves freely.
Toro clear won't start – Toro Power Clear 621 R
ANSWER : Bad gas , plug ,air filter , no spark ck all need all 3 to start
