How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
For best coverage, set the spreader at 50 percent, and then spread your seed two ways in a crosshatch pattern. Points to consider with broadcast spreaders include: They suit large lawns and cover wide areas efficiently.
Variations in physical characteristics of material applied, walking speed, and roughness of ground surface may require slightly different spreader settings. Due to the above conditions, the Manufacturer makes no warranty as to the uniformity of coverage actually obtained from the settings listed.
Low to medium spinner-disc speeds (600 – 700 rpm) are generally recommended for more uniform fertilizer distribution across the swath. However, application at higher spinner-disc speeds are also common among the applicators to spread wider and cover more acres.
The best time to fertilize your lawn is when the grass is actively growing, and for cool-season grasses, that`s when temperatures are 60 to 70 degrees F. For warm-season grasses, active growth will usually happen when temperatures are between 75 and 85 degrees F.
The standard Milorganite to grass seed mixing ratio is 4:1 by weight. After overseeding, apply one lb. of N per 1,000 sq. ft., or 50 lbs.
The N-P-K analysis for Milorganite, for example, is 6-4-0: 6% nitrogen; 4% phosphorus; and, 0% potassium, indicating there is less than 1% potassium.
The numbers stand for an application rate. A bag of commercial fertilizer will usually have numbers for where to set either broadcast or drop spreaders to get the recommended amount of fertilizer laid down. The numbers on the bag may be different for various brands of spreaders.
To spread Soil Doctor brand pelletized lime, set a broadcast spreader to two-thirds open, or a drop spreader to one-third open, or equivalent.
If you are using a drop spreader, such as Scott`s Classic Drop Spreader, and using a Yard Mastery granular fertilizer, you will want to set your spreader at a 7.
