How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your amperage is too low, your electrode will be especially sticky when striking an arc. Too low amperage may also cause your arc to keep going out while maintaining the correct arc length or the arc will stutter. This weld is a result of too little current.
The Lincoln Electric AC225S Arc Welder features a broad welding amperage range of 40 Amp – 225 Amp for versatile use.
The principal difficulty encountered in striking the arc is “freezing,” or when the electrode sticks or fuses to the work. This is caused by the current melting the electrode tip and sticking it to the cold base metal before it is withdrawn from contact.
4: Striking an Arc. To properly strike the arc in stick welding, brush or scrape the end of the electrode against the base material. Some electrode types, such as 7018, form a hard slag shell over the end of the electrode after welding.
Push your foot down on the pedal to increase the amperage or let the pedal up to decrease the amperage, if your TIG welder has a foot pedal amperage control. Push the hand amperage control wheel forward to increase the amperage or roll it backwards to decrease the amperage, if your TIG welder has a hand control.
First and foremost, it is imperative that you inspect the material to look for defects such as scratches or gouges and to determine if your material and dimensions are correct for this project. You should also check to make sure the material is clean, square, and if there are supposed to be holes and slots present.
Powerful Output To Get The Work Done

The AC-225 offers an open circuit voltage of 230 Volts plus 225 Amp AC output. These features ensure an easy strike to start welding and a smooth AC arc to keep you welding. This machine is a great choice for build-up welding and light fabrication.

Product Details. The Lincoln Electric Ranger 225 Engine-Driven Welder offers versatile DC welding with a smooth welding output for a broad range of stick electrode types. It delivers up to 10,500 watts of peak AC generator power with its 23 HP Kohler gasoline engine with outputs rated up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
The stick welding process is more challenging to master than MIG welding, but it`s less complex than TIG welding. One of the most challenging aspects of stick welding is electrode manipulation and application.
Inadequate shielding gas coverage is among the biggest culprits, and this can be addressed in several ways. First, check the regulator or flow meter for adequate gas flow, increasing it as necessary. Check the gas hoses and welding gun for possible leaks, and block off the welding area if drafts are present.

Hi I have a Cigweld 170 hf I am the second owner of it and a good friend brought it new,its done very little work around 20-30 hrs from new, we currently live on a rural dairy farm and has developed a problem where we turn the welder on goes to start up for around 3-4 seconds then shuts down and we might have to do that conscequectivly three or four times then the welder will run and have no problems on mmaw but if on gtaw on hf setting and we push the hf button ready to weld the welder sometimes might stop and shut down,so we have sent the welder away twice and they can’t find anything wrong with the welder,we spoke to a electrcian today because the 240 volt power supply socket has had the earth pin filled down to go in a 10 amp wall socket and he thought it shouldn’t make a difference this welder has the same problem at the cowshed and we have many engineers with welders running all the time with no problems. Its so frustrating because a five minute job tig welding stainless sheet takes me maybe 30-40 minutes by the time this welder throws a wobbly all the time can you help in any way. Thanks Reece

Karcher K 2.26M 1.601-602.0 ; running it at pressure, all of a sudden loss of water pressure….looked at unit, water coming out by on/off switch. Removed back, removed whole unit from yellow body case.Turned unit upside down mistakenly,water/oil substance came out by fan (or very light weight oil….did not look like when water is in oil,ie:milky color..was darkish grey leaning towards black)immediatly flipped back right side up.
A) How did it lose pressure? A bad ‘o’ ring seal,a bad seal for one of the pistons?
B) Where did the oil come from? Internal, meaning another bad seal?Do I need to add oil if this can be repaired?
Put washer back together, did a quick “run” check.Unit still runs fine, but no pressure …water comes out of wand, and still comes out by on/off switch.
Thanks!

I have a 2.5 turbo craftsman chainsaw that I just rebuilt the carb. this chain saw was given to me and was not working when I was given this gift I knew it had worked before knowing the people that gave me the chainsaw. I got the engine running with the rebuil then it would not turn off. I had pull the plug wire. though maybe it was the switch, but the parts store tested and said the switch was fine. I checked to see if it had come undone from the ciol, but it had not. I disconnected the switch and it will still start then while it was running I tried to connectthe two wires going to the switch thinking it would turn off, but it did not. what do you suggest?
ANSWER : Hi, if you short the kill switch terminal on the coil and you still have spark then the earthing circuit inside the coil is fried. If this is the case the only way to fix your problem is replace the coil. Regards Phil.

I have an older Kubota tractor, model B7100 HST. Was running the tractor and had electrical smoke/short? Took the dash off and noticed that the regulator was fried and melted no other apparent damage. I assumed the problem was within the regulator……..bad mistake. Bought a new regulator. Hooked up all the wires and started the tractor. Seemed to run fine and shut it down. Used the tractor for about 10-15 minutes the next day noticed smoke once again coming from under the dash. Shut the machine down. Everything within the dash wiring bundle was fried. I mean really messed up. Wires were melted together new regulator was toast – literally! So I assumed once again that there was a short within the dash wiring bundle since none of the damage occured past the main connection between the dash and the wiring bundle that leads to the rest of the engine, starter etc.
I ordered a new complete dash wiring bundle, and new regulator. Hooked it all up and turned the ignition key and smoke just started again. Unhooked the battery immediately. Seems I caught it in time without doing any damage – I hope. The only thing I have not changed within the dash is the ignition switch. Spoke to one of the machanics at Kubota and I suggested perhaps it was the igntion switch? He didnt think so but didnt really know what to suggest. He suggested looking down the entire length of the wiring bundle for any wires that maybe have worn through and “gone to ground”. I have looked but nothing is apparent. I should also mention that in all instances NONE of the three fuses within the dash have blown. The fact that none of the other part of the wiring harness past the dash main harness connection makes a person believe the problem is occuring within the dash? I’m thinking of replacing the switch.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Barry
ANSWER : It does sound like a dead ground inside the ignition switch and I don’t know why the mechanic didn’t tell you that since it’s not the first time they have heard about this issue.
