Mantis MODEL NUMBER LOOKUP
The model number on a Mantis tiller can be found on a white label, located on top of the engine housing. The model number will be located at the bottom of the label in the “Item#” field. Enter the model number of your Mantis below to search for parts.
It is located between the fuel tank and the carburettor, behind the fuel pipes, on a black and silver tab on the silver engine housing. It will consist of the letters âSV,â a number and another letter.

Can not find my manual for the mantis tiller..forgot hot to start it up for the first time
ANSWER : You should be able to go to the Mantis web site and download the owners manual. To start, make sure the switch in turned on, push the fuel primer bulb several times (until you feel resistance), pull the choke out all the way and pull the starter rope until it fires. Then, push the choke half way in and it should start. Let it run a 30 seconds to 1 minute and then push the choke all the way in. Be sure you are using the currect fuel/oil mixture with fresh gas and oil. If you have not done so already clean the air filter and replace the spark plug at the recommended interval.

After a few weeks of no use, my tiller started on the first or second pull but even after long warm up, it stalled as soon as I trottled up. This happens even on the stand with no resistance/load. The machine is not jammed–the tiller blades turn while the machine is idling. It just dies as soon as I try to work.

Mantis 2-stroke tiller won’t start
ANSWER : This could be one of several problems…• Last year’s fuel. Get some fresh gas.• Every 2-stroke needs a new spark plug each year… you know what that means.• Clogged carb jets due to storing the tiller over the winter with fuel in the system. Never, ever do that. Now you’ll need to pull the carb apart and clean it. Most of the orifices are so tiny you can’t see them. Good luck.• Engine is so old the crankshaft seals have hardened with age. This is one reason no 2-stroke lasts longer than about 8 years. If the seals are shot, then it will cost more to fix than a new one costs. Time to toss it.

When I Start Mantis Tilleer it starts in gear ( tines are turning)
ANSWER : The Mantis has a speed controlled automatic clutch.
Lower the idle speed by turning the idle screw counter clockwise. The idle screw is attached where the throttle cable meet the carb. The screw has a pointed end that resembles a pencil point.
The engine speed should be adjusted just above stalling.
If the tines turn even when the engine pull rope is pulled, the the clutch is defective and needs repairing.
