Pony Garden Tiller

Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Hi, On the stubborn ones I use large wood screws in as many places as possible to lift it out. (some times as many as 6 screws.) You put them through the center part of the facing. You may have to use a smaller screw to make a hole for the bigger screws. Then screw them all evenly to lift it out.

If that does not work I drill holes in it until I can break the old seal into pieces and then pry it out with a screwdriver. Some of them can really be stubborn. The key is to be careful if you use a drill because if you don’t get all of the drill shavings out it will cut the new seal you installed.

Hopefully you do not have the kind of seal that is installed on the inside of the gear case where the case has to be separated to remove the seal. I have not seen one of those since the old Wheel Horse Tillers. Sorry to hear of the struggle your having but I think with persistence you will get it out.

The product`s model number is essential to finding correct genuine factory replacement part numbers for your Troy-Bilt® outdoor power equipment. The Model number is eleven characters long and is printed on the left side of the Product Identification Label. Characters can include numbers, letters or hyphens.
For full replacement use SAE 140 or SAE 85W-140 gear oil with an API rating of GL-4 only. We have also found that 80W-90 oil with an API rating of GL-1 is acceptable for both partial and full replacement of tiller gear oils.
What year was my equipment built? The 5th character of our 11 character product serial numbers will indicate the last number of the year that it was manufactured. Since 5th character in the example is a 4, the year of manufacture would be a year ending in 4.
When the “blunt” edge width measures 1/4″ to 3/8″, a new set is probably required. If the tines become so worn that they are pointed, the tiller will not perform acceptably–you`ll be aerating instead of tilling! For the most part, tines need to be replaced as a set (or kit)–not individually.
One of the most important things you can do for your tiller is to keep it clean. Wash the tiller, particularly the tines and housing, after each use (be careful not to spray water on a hot engine!). For continued effectiveness, you will need to replace the tines when they become worn down.
