Carburetor. A clogged or dirty carburetor can prevent your leaf blower`s gas engine from firing properly or even starting at all. Depending on the model, cleaning it can be as easy as removing an external panel and spraying a few bursts of carb cleaner into the choke.
Leaf blowers are powered by electric or gasoline motors. Gasoline models have traditionally been two-stroke engines, but four-stroke engines were recently introduced to partially address air pollution concerns. Leaf blowers are typically self-contained handheld units, or backpack mounted units with a handheld wand.
Blower carbs are specially designed for the job. Trying to run a blower without boost-referenced carbies is just asking for trouble. Boost-referencing is basically a way of ensuring enough fuel is added for the larger quantity of air the charger is forcing in, to prevent the engine from running lean.
The 4-Stroke System that Power Your Small Engine

In order to power your equipment, the overhead valve engine completes a repeating 4-step process detailed below. Air and fuel enter the small engine through the carburetor.

The carburetor mixes fuel and air in the right proportions so that the spark plug can ignite the mixture inside the cylinder, powering the engine. If the leaf blower engine won`t start even though there`s fuel in the tank, the carburetor could be the problem.

How does a leaf blower work? Leaf blowers make use of centrifugal force to move the fallen leaves in your garden to make it tidy. Turning your leaf blower on will cause its motor to run, which spins the fan inside it. The spinning fan draws in air from outside the blower, before travelling out the other end.
Cubic feet per minute (CFM) is a measurement of the volume of air a leaf blower can produce at wide-open throttle (WOT). The measurement tells us how much space in cubic feet you can fill with air in one minute. The higher the CFM, the larger the area your blower effects and the better you can keep objects moving.
Depending on its intended use, a cordless leaf blower with a CFM between 400-700 should be powerful enough to greatly ease your fall yard chores. If you have a small yard with little debris, choose one with 200-400 CFM.
To arrive at the most appropriate carburetor choice, there`s a basic formula: engine displacement multiplied by maximum rpm divided by 3,456. For example: a typical 355ci small-block—a 0.030-over rebuild—with a 6,000-rpm max engine speed would work well with a 616-cfm carb ((355 x 6,000) 3,456 = 616.32).
Fuel injection systems eventually replaced carburetors because they could be better controlled, which provided more efficient fuel use, lesser pollution, and lesser fuel consumption as well. Power and performance were the main reasons why fuel injection systems began to replace the carburetor starting in 1970.
Since the 1990s, carburetors have been largely replaced by fuel injection for cars and trucks, but carburetors are still used by some small engines (e.g. lawnmowers, generators and concrete mixers) and motorcycles. However, they are still widely used on Piston engine driven aircraft.
Similar to an automobile engine, a small engine on a self-propelled lawn mower, push mower, or riding mower uses a carburetor to help run the engine, which is why you should keep the carburetor clean.

A snowblower carburetor is as equally important as the carburetor in a car or other vehicle, as it is essential to the motor receiving the fuel it needs, in the air-fuel ratio it requires to perform. Luckily, if your snowblower carburetor is not working properly, there is a good chance it just needs to be cleaned.
Mid-grade unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 is recommended for your mixture. Fuel with a lower octane rating may increase engine temperatures, increasing the risk of piston seizure and damage to the engine.

ANSWER : Before you go through the trouble of dismantling the blower to get to the flywheel you should perform a compression test. 140 psi is ideal. Less than 100 its probably not worth repairing. Less than 90 it shouldn’t run.

ANSWER : Hi, Check the hose that supplies the carb with fuel. Sometimes even a small pinhole can cause this type of malfunction.

Will only develop power (and run somewhat properly) when the choke is engaged about 90%. Starts fine.
ANSWER : Sounds to me as tho you may have a loose carburetor or another part that is letting air into the system. Check all bolts and screws for tightness. Also, you may need to clean the carburetor or put some cleaner in your gas. Not too much, only about a tablespoon, but check the screws/bolts first.

I have a Echo leaf blower and I can get it running but then it’s cuts off after just a few seconds. It has new plug, air filter and fuel filter. What else could it be?
ANSWER : The carburetor could be dirty and need a good cleaning and you could first remove the fuel pump cover (cover without the vent hole) to the carburetor and look for the small, round, fine-mesh screen. Sometimes it gets covered with dirt and debris and has to be cleaned as it allows the fuel to flow into the metering side of the carburetor.
