Have an older model 60″ lazer z. When I get it out of level I would smell gas and it would bogg down. I took carb off and cleaned it out , made sure float wasn't sticking. A ll seemed to check out ok, but then again I know nothing about carb's. Put back together and it runs fine ,but rich. Engage blades and motor boggs down to about half power. wondering if there was a solenoid or smething that is suposed to take over when blades are on?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Check the plugs, if they are black and soot covered you may have a float valve that is not sealing allowing a little extra fuel to get into the mix. If you have the savy to remove and clean the carburetor then you should be able to replace the float valve, one tiny spec is all it takes and the float overfills; if you clamp the fuel line shut and the tractor improves after using up fuel in the carburetor it is very likely an overfilled float bowl.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Whenever the blade is engaged, it rotates on a crankshaft to cut the grass. But if there is interference in this rotation, the engine can overload and shut off or lose power.
Over time, a spark plug will wear out. Eventually, the spark will no longer be powerful enough to fully ignite the air and fuel. You are likely to notice power loss including bogging down when cutting grass because of a worn spark plug. Removing and replacing a spark plug is easy.
If the engine is low on power, it will bog down when you try to accelerate. This could be caused by a number of different issues, including low compression, a bad timing belt, sucking too much air, or even a head gasket leak.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the engine for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
Clogged or Dirty Air Filters

It is one of the most common problems that cause lawnmowers to sputter. The mowers take the air from the surrounding through air filters and mix it with fuel inside the engine. So, if the air filter is clogged or dirty, it will affect the flow of air into the carburetor.

The most common reason for a surging lawn mower engine is a blockage in the fuel supply, but there are other possibilities: Bad gas. Bad spark plug. Dirty/faulty carburetor.
What is Bogging? When a dirt bike bogs, it simply means it`s not getting enough fuel and the engine sputters or stalls at full throttle. There are two common types of bogging: lean bog and rich bog, distinguishable by how the bike sounds when you throttle.
A loose spark plug causes bogging because it doesn`t reach far enough into the combustion chamber to ignite all the fuel. A spark plug can become loose from vibration over time, or if it wasn`t properly tightened to begin with.
There are a few reasons why this could be happening: 1) Your air filter could be dirty. A dirty air filter restricts airflow to the engine, causing it to bog down. 2) Your carburetor could be dirty. A dirty carburetor can cause the engine to run lean, meaning there`s not enough fuel getting to the engine.
Some of the most common sensors that lead to engine stalling include the mass airflow sensor (MAF), engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) and manifold absolute pressure sesnsor (MAP). The idle air control valve (IAC) and exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR) are also well known for causing engine stalling.
You Lose Power in the Middle of Mowing:

Here`s why this happens and what you can do: Dirty Air Filter on Your Lawn Mower: Clean or replace. Dirty Spark Plug: Clean or replace. Build Up of Clippings & Debris: Clean underside of your lawn mower deck as noted above.

Replace dirty or clogged fuel filter. Replace old gas with fresh gas (properly dispose of old gas). Check oil level and add if low. Adjust cutting height of mower before cutting tall grass.
You might have contaminated gas in the mower. Drain out the old gas. Change the fuel filter. Get new gas, non-ethanol if possible.
