How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Smoking pressure washers indicate the machine is not properly burning the fuel. When fuel is not burning correctly the unit will build up soot in the coil. Soot build up on the heat exchange coil is a symptom of an ill-maintained burner.
Tune up the pressure washer engine to help eliminate exhaust smoke. A tune-up includes changing the oil, checking the ignition system and adjusting the throttle and choke controls.
Motor Capacitor. Another frequent cause of a pressure washer emitting a burning smell may be a failed motor capacitor. Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
When white smoke is coming from your pressure washer it is best to check your oil first. Check the oil level and smell it for any gasoline smell. If it does smell of gas then an oil change will be needed. There are normally two drain plugs on either side of the motor to drain the oil.
A defective start switch, or bad start or run winding in the motor will keep the motor from starting properly, and the high in-rush current will continue causing the motor`s windings to overheat and burn. The burning motor winding is the cause of the smoke.
The simple answer is yes, pressure washers can overheat. This is not unique to pressure washing machines – anything with a motor or power source can overheat in the right (or perhaps, wrong) circumstances.
Overfilling oil may cause smoking, hard starting, spark plug fouling, and oil saturation of the air filter. Do not run the pressure washer before connecting and turning on the water supply failing to do so will result in damage to the pump.
Pressure washers operate under pressure, and that pressure needs to be released by pulling the trigger. If you let the machine run for two minutes or longer without spraying water, then you could damage the pump.
The most common cause is mold and mildew. Mold and mildew thrive in damp, dark environments like washing machines. If you don`t clean your washing machine regularly, mold and mildew can build up and cause a musty smell.
The most likely is bacteria growing in your washer because of built-up dirt, mildew and mold, lint, and/or soap. If you don`t regularly clean your washing machine, these things build up on, under, or inside the rubber seal and in the crevices of the drum.
If you experience a burning rubber smell from your washer, you should inspect the pump belt. If the belt appears to be worn excessively or shows signs of overheating, then you should replace it. Verify that the pump turns freely and if an idler pulley is used, make sure that it operates properly as well.
