John Deere

I was on a job. I shut down the mower to move a downed tree branch. When I went to start it, nothing happened. I have since ruled out the battery, battery terminal connections, wiring connections under the seat, and broken wires under the seat. I noticed a small wiring harness going in the direction of the mower deck. I haven’t checked those wires yet, neither have I checked the safety switch under the seat. Whatever happened was immediate and was not present before yesterday.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your John Deere won`t crank and all you hear are clicking sounds when you turn the key, you likely have a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Double check that the alternator and battery connections are clean and tight.
Riding Mower Clicks but Doesn`t Crank

When you hear a click as you turn the key, a weak battery, bad starter solenoid, faulty wiring, failed starter motor or a seized engine could be the cause. This DIY troubleshooting will help you figure out what to fix.

Your Mower Won`t Start:

Other possible causes include: Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas.

A dead battery or a failed starter motor will not allow the engine to crank at all. But these components don`t always fail suddenly one day. If a battery is low on energy, or if the connections are loose, your engine may be able to crank, but it may not start–or it may take several tries.
1 Start motor engages but the engine doesn`t turn

The simplest cause of this sort of fault is a loose or corroded electrical connection. If there is a fault with the internal windings of the starter motor, bad brushes, or other electrical faults, the starter motor may lack the torque to crank the engine.

The most common cause for the engine not turning over is simply the battery. Either the battery itself is dead, the terminals are corroded so the current can`t travel through them, or the battery cables themselves are damaged. Inspect your battery terminals and cables, and test the battery.
If your lawnmower is starting and then stalling, the most likely issue is the carburetor. The most common issue is that the carburetor is dirty. Here`s what you need to know about how a dirty carburetor can cause a lawnmower to start, then stall out and die.
If your diesel engine won`t start, the problem could be the amount of pressure in the fuel system. The engine may not start if the fuel pressure is too low. Fuel pressure that is too high can cause damage to the exhaust system while also increasing soot pollution in the exhaust.
If the engine cranks but will not start, this may be caused by damaged wiring to the high pressure fuel pump. Wiring to the pump can be chafed, which causes the pump to stop working. The chafed wires will need to be accessed and repaired.
