Mod 345 no spark
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
First find the wire that is grounded to mower to ignition
and check that it is isolated if mounted on some plastic and disconnect it
if it runs to start switch check wire for cuts also
most common problem is the coil located under the top plate held on by 4 /5 screws on sides.
remove top and follow plug wire back to coil

you can clean the curved edges of coil that are against motor {magneto} with sand paper and clean mag
remove plug and lay threads securely agains frame and check for spark {hold by wedging not by hand as you can get a jolt!}

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.
If your John Deere won`t crank and all you hear are clicking sounds when you turn the key, you likely have a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Double check that the alternator and battery connections are clean and tight.
Broken, damaged or corroded wire. Timing. Improper spark plug gap. Faulty ignition coil.
Loss of spark is caused by anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. This includes worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad plug wires or a cracked distributor cap.
Check to see if the switch and terminals are free from rust and replace any damaged or broken spark plugs wires as necessary. Alternatively, it could be a bad ignition module. A simple way of testing the ignition module is to leave the car idling for 30 minutes and then tap the ignition module with a screwdriver.
With proper maintenance and repair, a John Deere riding mower will provide approximately 2,000 hours or about fifteen years of service.
Riding Mower Clicks but Doesn`t Crank

When you hear a click as you turn the key, a weak battery, bad starter solenoid, faulty wiring, failed starter motor or a seized engine could be the cause. This DIY troubleshooting will help you figure out what to fix.

If the engine will not crank, you likely have a problem with… Discharged / defective battery or faulty electrical connections. To address these issues, check the battery and charging system for problems. Faulty parts: potentially the safety interlocks, starter motor switch (open circuit) or solenoid.
The proper method to check for spark is with a spark tester. It resembles a spark plug but has a sunken center electrode that simulates a load on the coil. Holding the plug wire and seeing if a spark jumps to ground is inconclusive. The spark is arcing in atmospheric pressure.
With a poor ground the starter ring return path may not allow adequate amps to return to allow a starter to reach the torque and speed to start. Normally, however, with a well tuned car and cranking, the engine will fire right up. Weakness, though, and it may not start.
Spark plugs may become less effective at doing their job due to time, wear, or other electrical/ignition system issues. They may become “fouled” over time due to combustion, contamination, or overheating, losing their ability to spark the air-fuel mixture and dissipate heat away from the combustion chamber.
Simply, the engine will not start if the spark plugs can`t produce enough spark to start the combustion process. Some of the other causes for difficulty starting include issues with the ignition system, a battery needs replacing, or worn-out spark plug wires.
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Spark won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.

Spake plug is not spakeing – John Deere Original 130 160 165 175 180 185 Operators
ANSWER : Hi Lloyd
Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug. You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and cranking the engine or by pulling the crank rope…watching the plug for spark. If you are getting a nice blue spark then skip A below and go to B.
A…If you do not get a nice blue spark then you may need to replace the electronic module.Note: If you have to replace the module be sure to measure the position it is in, it is critical to starting. The clearance can be measured with a “business card”…use the card for the right clearance between the coil and the flywheel.Take a picture for later reassembly.
B…Also take some fine grit sandpaper (not emery) and lightly sand the flywheel where the magnet is located to clean any rust or corrosion from the magnet area. Please rate meBud

John deere will not start
ANSWER : Charge the battery fully, verify good contact on the battery terminals. If it won’t crank, check for voltage at the starter motor while trying to crank, check battery voltage while cranking (if it drops below 9V, the battery needs to be replaced).

If it cranks but doesn’t fire, make sure it has plenty of good fresh gasoline, verify that the carburetor float valve isn’t sticking shut, verify that the spark plug is good and you’re getting good spark while you crank.
