The most common reason a gas or diesel Gator won`t start is a battery that has run down, either due to the Gator not having been used for a few weeks or purely from old age. Gator batteries are renowned for their incredible longevity, often lasting up to ten years or even longer.

If your John Deere won`t crank and all you hear are clicking sounds when you turn the key, you likely have a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Double check that the alternator and battery connections are clean and tight.
The Gatorâ„¢ TX 4X2 is powered by an 11.6-kW (15.5-hp)*, 675-cc (41.2-cu in.), V-twin, four-cycle gas engine.
When the high voltage produced by the ignition system is applied between the center electrode and ground electrode of the spark plug, the insulation between the electrodes breaks down, current flows in the discharge phenomenon, and an electrical spark is generated.
If the spark plug and the rest of the ignition system are working properly, you should see an obvious blue spark arcing between the tip of the inner central electrode of the plug and the curved metal top that arcs downward near it as the engine turns over.
Importance of the Spark Plug Gap
The gap is the distance between the center and side electrodes, set so arcing occurs at the proper voltage that ignites the fuel and generates the combustion that makes the engine run.
Just as importantly, John Deere recommends you change your spark plugs every 100 hours or once a mowing season.

ANSWER : Hi Lloyd
Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug. You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and cranking the engine or by pulling the crank rope…watching the plug for spark. If you are getting a nice blue spark then skip A below and go to B.
A…If you do not get a nice blue spark then you may need to replace the electronic module.Note: If you have to replace the module be sure to measure the position it is in, it is critical to starting. The clearance can be measured with a “business card”…use the card for the right clearance between the coil and the flywheel.Take a picture for later reassembly.
B…Also take some fine grit sandpaper (not emery) and lightly sand the flywheel where the magnet is located to clean any rust or corrosion from the magnet area. Please rate meBud

I have John Deere GX345. It does not start consistently. When it doesn’t start the plugs have no spark. The problem is intermittent. All electrical connections look clean and no corrosion. Re- seated all connections. Fuel flow is good because I can smell raw fuel while cranking the motor. I replaced the fuel lines last year. Thank you for your help. Daryl Witowski
