HAVE A JOHN DEERE 318 LAWN TRACTOR, CHANGED POINTS AND CONDENSER, WON’T TURN OVER, TRIED STARTING FLUID IN CARB AND NOTHING. CAN IT BE THE COIL AND HOW DO I CHECK? THANKS
ANSWER : Check the coil impedance on the primary and secondary side. You’ll have to disconnect the battery negative cable so you don’t short something out. Unplug the spark plug wires and the two sets of smaller wires connected to the primary side of the coil. The primary coil reading should be between 3.7 ohms and 4.6 ohms while the secondary (spark plug side) should be between 34.2 k-ohms and 41.6 k-ohms. If the resistance values you measure are outside of these ranges, you need to replace the coil.

ANSWER : If you have no spark the first thing to replace the time delay module on the left rear side of engine. Its black and about 2 inches by 1 inch with yellow,red,orange and black wires going to it. Replacement is round shaped with same amount of wires.If no fuel to carb check for flow at filter, if theres flow but no pressure look for a split fuel line in tank between pump and sender.

Hydraulic problem I have a john deere 2440a that I have went thru and replaced all hyd. clutches. Rear hyd conections have 2000 psi coming off from the belly pump. Pto is only running at 1/4 power and will quit spinning when brushoging in high grass. Power steering also comes and goes. Three point lift chatters when raising.
ANSWER : Check your hydro preasures,pump could be going out,also could be in your relieve valve which will be cheaper,hope that is your problem because of the cost,Sound like you know alot about it, and trust you have a high mechancal ability,I have a hunch it could be in you valve, hope this helps,
