The mower will start fine and run for a while, but then it starts cutting out like its out of gas, before it dies I can turn the choke on and it starts running fine but slow. Its like its not getting enough gas to stay running. I check all the line for blockage and the tank is full. If i turn it off for a min it will start again like nothing is wrong and the process starts all over again. I believe the fuel pump is going out but was wondering if it can be tested to make sure before I buy another one . Thank you, Kevin

Those pumps are cheap enough on ebay. Take yours apart and clean the diaphram and the valves to make it work better.

Electrical issues: Electrical faults are also significant contributors to fuel pump failures. The most common electrical issues are rusted connectors, loose connectors, or melted wiring and connectors.
Fuel pump failures tend to be sudden and unpredictable, with few symptoms to warn the motorist that trouble is brewing. And the higher the mileage on the vehicle, the greater the risk of a fuel pump failure.
A voltage of at least 12.5 – 13.0 volts must be present when the engine and pump are running. If the measured voltage at the terminals or the plug of the pump is significantly lower than the on-board voltage, e.g. lower than 11 volts, there is a malfunction.
Once the car is on, you need to listen for the fuel pump. Someone else needs to turn the key because the fuel pump will hum for just two or three seconds if it`s working. If you do not hear anything, the pump is not working.
A fuel pump is an electric motor * it generally consumes anywhere between 5 and 25 amps depending on the vehicle and the condition of the fuel pump. V/I=R 12.5/5 = 2.5 ohms, 12.5/25 = 0.5 ohms.
Luckily, fuel pump relays are easy to test and replace on your own. Start by taking the fuel pump relay out of your vehicle so you can clean and inspect it. After that, you can use a multimeter to check the resistance going through the relay`s circuit to see if it`s faulty or not.
The simplest way is to just listen for the hum of the fuel pump when you first turn your car on. You can also use an OBD II scanner. Testing your fuel pressure without a gauge is always going to be a bit imprecise and you should get a gauge as soon as it`s convenient.
This analysis is done by gauging the fuel pressure and the fuel delivery rate. To get the right results, you need the OBD-II code reader to gauge the real-time engine data. You then connect the diagnostic reader to the car and read the engine parameters. When that is done, select the fuel delivery system option.
To check if your pump is operating efficiently, measure the power consumed by the pump and check it against the pumps performance curve. The pump curve will specify how much power you should be using at the flow and pressure your pump is generating. This helps you to identify which pumps are not operating efficiently.
The basic operating system for an electric fuel pump is relatively simple. When the key is turned on, the powertrain control module (PCM) closes the fuel pump relay, which activates the fuel pump for about three seconds to pressurize the fuel injectors.
Start the car and let it idle. Install a fuel pressure gauge, run the pump, and note the pressure reading. Then compare it to the manufacturer specification. If the pressure is low, you should address that problem.
The most common reason a pump fails is wear on the pump from improper lubrication or over-use. The best way to explain a failed fuel pump due to wear and tear is to explain what other reasons may have lead to a failed pump: Most fuel pumps are lubricated by the fuel in the tank itself.
A weak fuel pump may still pump fuel, but the vehicle may experience difficulty starting from the lack of pressure. A weakened fuel pump can cause the vehicle to take more cranks to start than normal, and in more serious cases may even cause the vehicle to require multiple turns of the key before it will start.

ANSWER : I had the same problem. there was a short in the relay just before the wire gets to to back pulley assembly.

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.
