Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
`It could well be the carb flooding, however if you have been cranking the engine for a time without it starting it will keep drawing fuel into the cylinder, you need to remove the spark plug, switch the on/off switch to off, make sure the choke is off, crank the engine until no more fuel comes from the open plug hole, now leave with the plug out to allow it to dry out, refit the plug and try to start with no choke and wide open throttle.

One tell-tale sign that a chainsaw has flooded is the smell of fresh petrol near the muffler. To ascertain whether this is indeed the problem, simply disassemble the part, pull the starter cord as if you were switching on the engine, then dry it, reassemble it and try switching it on again.
A flooded engine is an internal combustion engine that has been fed an excessively rich air-fuel mixture that cannot be ignited. This is caused by the mixture exceeding the upper explosive limit for the particular fuel. An engine in this condition will not start until the excessively rich mixture has been cleared.
When trying to start a flooded engine, the end goal is to re-establish the fuel-air balance in your vehicle. To do so, simply open the hood of the car and let the excess of fuel evaporate. After waiting for some minutes, try starting your car again, keeping your foot away from the gas pedal.
You want lubrication of the actual chain against the bar. You don`t want to chain to burn – which is what might happen if there`s too much friction. Without oil, it causes frictional force on the motor in the chainsaw as well.
Many people wonder if a flooded chainsaw will fix itself? The answer is yes, but not always. By letting the chainsaw sit for about 20 minutes it will allow some of the fuel inside the engine to evaporate.
If a petrol engine chainsaw won`t start, it is usually due to an engine malfunction, specifically relating to the fuel system (which mixes the fuel with air and feeds this mixture into the engine`s combustion chamber) or ignition system (which produces the spark that starts combustion and thereby causes the engine to …
The easiest way to tell if your engine is flooded with gas is to remove the spark plug. If it`s wet, it`s flooded and you`ll need to let the cylinder dry out before trying to restart. Compressed air can help speed up the process.
The first is the easiest and most common method. Let your chainsaw sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the fuel to evaporate from the engine and then repeat the starting instructions.
You try to start your car, but you flood the engine. Relax — usually a flooded engine can be started. A “flooded engine” simply has too much gas in its cylinders, so the spark plugs can`t ignite the fuel-air mix.

I cleaned the air filter and know it does not turn on
ANSWER : Review the process you used to clean the filter–did a fuel line get knocked loose? Pull the spark plug and check for spark–it should be blue and snappy. If the internal insulator is wet, you may be flooded–turn the ignition off, open the throttle, and pull the engine through smartly a few times which should clean out excess fuel. If the insulator is dry, pour a little fuel mix into the plug hole and try for start. It may run or at least pop a few times. If it pops, check the fuel filter for plugging and check the fuel lines for any decay or other damage. Cleaning the air filter does not normally cause any problems. Hope this helps!
