How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Commercial environments use interlock switches in machinery of all types such as automated gates, elevators and slam-lock doors.
There are 4 safety interlock switches on our lawn and garden tractors. The locations vary slightly between Step-Thru® and box frame tractors.
When working correctly, this safety switch keeps the engine from starting if your foot isn`t pressing down on the brake or if the parking brake isn`t set. If the switch breaks, it won`t let current reach the starter solenoid coil even though the brake is on, and the engine won`t start.
A bypass lever is located on the back of the frame, pull out on the lever to move the mower and push it back in before mowing.
As per for any given interlock, one can simulate all inputs physically. By physical simulation, I mean applying pressure to pressure switches using calibrating equipment, putting temperature elements/switches in temperature calibrating equipment bath in the field, creating actual level (if possible) etc.
Elevators are equipped with an interlock that prevents the moving elevator from opening its doors, and prevents the stationary elevator (with open doors) from moving. Interlocks may include sophisticated elements such as curtains of infrared beams, photodetectors, simple switches, and locks.
They allow the control over current flow in a circuit. Based on this concept we have to answer this question. A switch is always connected to live wire. We know that the purpose of the switch is to break or connect an electric circuit, but they must be correctly connected in circuit.
Pull Chain Switches are electro-mechanical devices that are hand-operated and used to switch a circuit on and off or step a circuit through increasing power levels. Their most common application is in lighting where they are used to switch lamps. Pull Rope Switches are used as emergency stop devices.
Mechanically interlocked circuit breakers are intended to prohibit both power sources from being simultaneously connected to the load. The interlocking system disables one circuit breaker by mechanically preventing handle movement from the Off position while the other circuit breaker is in the On position.

How do i wire a toggle switch tomy electric clutch orignal switch doesn’t work.
ANSWER : Ther are two wires, one power one ground. The ground wire should be grounded already[confirm with an ohm meter. You need to put a power sorce to the switch and one from it to the pto this will make it work but will make all the safety switches in-operable so it is not a safe thing to do.Your best bet is to replace the swich or the safety switch that is keeping it from working[seat switch or brake switch usually].

Riding lawnmower will not start with key. I tried a new key switch and a new solenoid. I checked all safety switches and they checked out OK. I don’t know if the wires for the solenoid are hooked up correctly, because I bought the mower used.
ANSWER : Depend on the make and model of the mower….the safety switches usually are the seat, pto, shift lever, brake and clutch. If any of these are bad…the switch won’t work. Can you cross the starter and have it start? With these safety switches….you can’t just disconnect them to bypass. Most require a loop and running a wire from one side of the switch to the other will usually help you find the one causing the issue. The solenoid comes in about 4 different models. Some ground to the frame and some don’t. Not all key switches are the same either…we stock over 25 different switches and I could show you 7 that look identical but are different.Personally I would start testing from the starter and work my way back…starter, solenoid, safety switches, starter switch. www.nnyparts.com

1989 JD 2155 2WD tractor, cannot start engine, have replaced starter switch, nothing happens, battery good. What should I check next?
ANSWER : Have you tried crossing the large post of the starter with the small terminal that has the engagement wire going to it[with the machine in neutral and the range lever in neutral if course].If this will make the tractor turn over then the problem is likely the neutral safety switch located under the panel that is covering the transmission just rear of the sticks.
