How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

One of the major reasons for injector pump failure is an excessive buildup of deposits. There are two types of deposits – internal injector deposits and external injector deposits. External injector deposits are caused by fuel that`s not wholly burned that often builds up around the injector holes.
This can be caused by debris within the fuel & not having a strainer or filter fitted to the pump. If there is a strainer, ensure it`s clear; clean & remove debris as necessary, & inspect the strainer seal. Check electrical connections & check your the supply is providing the correct voltage to the pump.
The fuel injection system operates on the common rail principle in which timing valves, operated by cams on the camshaft, control the injection of fuel from a high-pressure manifold through spring-loaded injectors to the cylinders (Figure 14.12).
For optimal performance, a diesel engine`s primary need is a continuous supply of clean fuel. A symptom known as “airlock” occurs when this flow is interrupted by an air bubble, causing the engine to shut down and refuse to start.
There are many reasons for faulty fuel injectors but the three most common issues are clogging in your car`s fuel injectors, leaky and dirty injectors. You should remove the fuel injectors and clean them up before putting them back in for your car to function optimally.
Common causes of injector failure

While many things can cause breakdowns, the most likely cause of premature failure is fuel contamination. Fuel contamination occurs when debris in the fuel gets past the filtration, destroying the sealing surfaces. Think microns, smaller than a human`s hair-sized, clearances.

Diesel injectors fail because of two main reasons. The first has to do with the mechanical soundness of the injector structure, and the second has to do with the quality of the fuel running through the injector.
The pull-in coil of a fuel shut-off solenoid on an engine is connected to a relay which in turn is connected to the engine starting circuit. The relay is connected through the oil pressure light switch which opens after a short period of time as the result of a change in oil pressure as the engine is being cranked.
Common signs include poor cold start performance, the Check Engine Light coming on, and failing an emissions test.
A. Probably one of two things: Your engine is worn out, and the wear in the bearings and oil pump is causing low oil pressure. If the engine isn`t worn out, you may just have a bad oil-pressure sending unit — have an oil-pressure test performed using a mechanical gauge to find out.

The only guaranteed way to unclog a clogged injector properly is by removing the injectors from the engine. Once removed, the injectors can be dropped off or mailed to a professional injector cleaning service such as Injector RX.

How do you get the pump to circulate less. It seems like its running all the time to keep the temp up? I have a ozone system also could that be affecting it?
ANSWER : Your pump should be two speed if it is wired right there will be an overide in the way of a timer switch and or a therapy button ether one of these will keep the pump running at full speed the low speed should only run off the thermostat otherwise the water runs to fast to be heated properly. And no your ozone should have no effect on this. So check your timer and your therapy spa side.

Couple of guys tried to help me on this, perhaps you guys could come back. I forgot to mention there is a pressure tank bladder type on the discharge side. Could the air in this tank be messing with the prime. I checked the intake. It has water in it after bleeding air from the discharge system where before it was dry before purging air. I think there is air in the system and wonder if it is coming from the pressure tank?. i open up one of the discharge valves and a lot of air comes out. Should I put a valve on the pressure tank to take it off line until I get water from the well?

Mar 12, 2010 – Could it be the check valve? I took it off and the flap appears to be working correctly. This well has been here a long time. Never given me any problems. I do have galvenized couplers on the discharge and intake sides. Old. Could these be leaking even though they show no sign of water? The discharge is able to hold 30 pounds easily overnight. I do not hear any vacuum in the intake when I take it off. Could the pipe to the well have a leak? I know I would have to insert a sleeve but I do not want to go through the hassle if I do not have to. I had put on a brand new pump from the hardware store that did the same thing so I think that would elliminate the pump as being the problem.
I disconnected it for the winter and rehooked it up. The galvanized couplers on the discharge and pump side are old but do not appear to be leakeing as I taped them well. The check valve seems to be functioning well as I took it off and the flap works correctly. The well is not pulling water. there does not appear to be a vacuum on the check vale when I losen it. could the check valve be bad? I am aware I might have to resleeve the well, but do not want to hassle with this if I do not have to. I want to eliminate everything else first. i put another brand new pump on it to see if it was that. That partiuclar pump which was the same thng did not work either.
I took the pump nose off and looked at it. The one way valve appears to be working fine. The impeller is working fine also evidenced by when I turn it on witht the discharge cap off, water shoots out. When I open one of the discharge valves and turn it on, the pressure drops to 10lbs. At this point the prime water has moved through the pipe and and the pump does not soound like it has any water in it. I pull the cap off and have to “reprime it again.” It again goes back to the pressure gauage rapidly fluctuating while pump on. I disconnect pump on intake side I hear no vacuum. The guage is on the discharge side. The seals on the pump nose do not look frayed or damaged. The pump is not leaking water in any of the joints. The pipes on discharge and well side do not appear to be leaking.

ANSWER : My friend, please boil your question down. Your title has to do with riding mowers but the leaking, bladder, impeller, air bubbles, pressure tank, check valve comments seem to be migrating toward a pump of some kind – well? spa? pool? irrigation?

Briefly, any system that involves a water source, a water moving device, water storage device and ultimate useage is subject to leaks … into the system and out of the system. If this is a well and you have air in your system, your pump may be sucking air at the well or any loose connection between the tip of the pipe and the inlet to the pump. Your bladder could have failed but from what I can get from your comments, this is not the case. On the pressure side, neither air nor water will leak in … only out.

Please recheck all connections. Make sure your check valve is installed correctly and not leaking. The check valve assists the foot valve, which may have failed.

I am more inclined to think your well may be at the end of its useful life. To prove or disprove, you could have a plumber put a vacuum gage on your pump. He or she can answer this question is about 90 seconds based on this test. Expect to pay for one hour of time, which will be less than the time you have already invested in your project.

Why will my1994 bravada not start?
ANSWER : Very possible your new pump went out again, or was not installed correctly. Check fuel pressure. If you know electrical you can jumper the relay to run the pump. On some GM models I have seen a test wire for the pump underhood.

Have a craftsman 16″ chain saw 358.360260. Could not initially get it started after it had sat for a couple years with fuel stabilizer in it. When I went to use it the fuel had all evaporated and the fuel pick line was rotted. I replaced that with some difficulty but finally got it on. Saw still wouldn’t start. Replaced the fuel filter. Still wouldn’t start. Pulled the carb apart and cleaned and recleaned everything. Diaphragms were good and I didn’t adjust any of the mixture screws because as I said it ran fine before storage. Non of the carb passages were clogged. Fresh gas 40:1, good spark plug and good spark. Airfilter is good. Engine has maybe about 4 hours of total run time on it. It’s a ZAMA (?) carb. It will run for about 30 seconds when I manually prime it by pouring a small amount of fuel directly though the carb. When I was disassembling the carb the vent hose that goes back into the fuel tank seemed to have a small out of ?substance? in it which I cleaned out. It was right at the end the of the hose that goes back into the fuel tank and not up by the carb. It didn’t appear to be like your typical gummy deposits/varnish though. I hope it wasn?t some type of spongy check valve stuff that is supposed to be in there. That might explain some of my problems. Anyway, I also can not seem to get the primer bulb to fill. When I open the fuel tank, look in side and depress the primer bulb, air bubbles come out of the fuel filter. But when I let the bulb reexpand there’s no fuel that gets sucked up the hose. I can however seem to fill the primer bulb when the fuel tank is full and the chainsaw is laying on it?s pull cord side and the bulb is depressed a bunch of times. The saw will also start and run again for about 15 seconds then die. It’s definitely not getting/fuel and probably running out . Thanks.
