Why Does Your Riding Mower Belt Keep Coming Off? Your riding mower belt keeps coming off because of several possible causes such as a damaged, dirty, or incorrectly installed belt. This problem can also be due to an oil leak, damaged mower pulleys, damaged bearings, or a misaligned or stretched out belt.
The serpentine belt need constant tension on the belt to keep it from coming off. If the belt alignment is not aligned then the belt may come off. The tensioner may be out of alignment and not putting enough tension on the belt. Have a mechanic check the tensioner and replace it if needed.
Wander Due to Faults with Splices or the Belt

Improper belt splicing is a significant cause of mistracking. If the belt is not spliced squarely, the belt will wander back and forth on the conveyor structure. This can usually be seen at the tail pulley.

An over-tightened belt can burn out any bearing that the belt rotates on, including alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, idler pulleys, etc. An over-tightened timing belt can ruin any pulley bearing it is connected with.
The arm is linked with the balance rod for providing the connection to the steering wheel. The idler arm is connected to the pitman arm for providing support to the connection of the wheels with the steering wheel. It works by turning in the direction transmitted from the steering gear.
Generally, an idler arm is attached between the opposite side of the center link from the pitman arm and the vehicle`s frame to hold the center link at the proper height so it can accurately relay the pitman arm`s movement.
same D-section when the life span is 5000h ( h =5000h) and reliability is 50% or 90% are given. The life of the same cross section V-belt should be calculated with the different initial conditions: an equivalent power rating of a single V-belt but different reliability requirements by the new method.
A perfectly tight mower belt can rotate without slipping off but not cause the engine to over-exert and overheat. If the belt does not slip off while working and is not producing unfavorable sounds that indicate wearing off of the belt, then that is the perfect tightness for it.
