How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Generally speaking, the chain should be a little loose on the chain saw guide bar, but not loose enough that the drive links come out of the bar nose. The bar links should feel like they are raising up, but not actually come out of the guide bar.
Turn the tension control screw to the right to tighten the chain and to the left to loosen it, instructs eReplacementParts.com. Attempting to turn the tension screw without loosening the nuts first may be the reason you can`t tighten the chain. Tighten the nuts back into place when you have the chain properly adjusted.
There is a tension screw located near the base of the bar on the chainsaw. To tighten the chain, turn it clockwise, and to loosen turn it counterclockwise. Don`t over-tighten the chain as this could cause it to break.
To determine whether the chainsaw chain is stretched, pull the chain away from the chainsaw`s guide bar to see if there`s space between the two. If there`s space between the chain and the chainsaw`s guide bar, then the chainsaw chain is stretched.
There should be approximately one half inch of movement in the chain up and down at a point half way between the front and rear sprockets. To change the tension loosen one of the axle-nuts and move the wheel forward or backward slightly and snug it up again.
Loose chains also make pedaling less efficient and waste your energy. A loose chain will only get worse over time, though, so you`ll want to fix it to avoid further frustration.
A simple way to check for low compression is to place the chainsaw on the ground and use the starter rope to lift it. Good compression will prevent the rope from pulling out. You should be able to carefully lift the weight of the chainsaw by the starting cord.
Generally, two-stroke chainsaw engines are built to conveniently run at full throttle without an engine breakdown. Therefore, running at any throttle speed below the full throttle is not advised. Cutting a thick wood or timber while running at a low speed or throttle can cause the blades of the chainsaw to become dull.
The Kickback Danger Zone
When this area of the bar touches an object like a branch or log, there is high likelihood that a sudden kickback reaction will occur. The larger the bar nose size, the higher the potential for chainsaw kickback.

Chain saw chain is loose
ANSWER : Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!
Chain keeps coming off – Remington Electric Chain Saw

** This proceedure must be used on ANY brand chain saw. Here is why. If the bar nose is not lifted upon adjustment, when cutting, the nose will move upward, the chain will have a ‘droop’ away from the bar and appear to have loosened while cutting. Any contact with a small branch will flip the chain off of the bar. If you re-adjust it improperly, the same senerio will occur the next cut.
