Fuel/Oil Mixture
Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL suppliers recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 2gal premium/8oz chainsaw 2-cycle engine oil – used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (1gal premium/2.6oz Stihl 2-cycle engine oil)
Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few weeks. Anything over 1.5 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 32:1 mixture, use 4 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
Common gasoline and oil mix ratios are 50:1 and 40:1. Meaning there is 50/40 parts gasoline to one part oil when mixed. The lower the mix ratio number the more oil per volume in the gasoline. To mix properly add oil to your gas can, then add fresh gasoline from the pump.
50 to1 means 50 parts of gas to 1 part of oil. So the 40 to 1 mixture is more oily and provides better lubrication for your piston rings. The downside is it will foul out your spark plug sooner, but that`s no big deal because it`s simple to pull the plug out and clean it and stick it back in.

To calculate the oil to gas ratio, divide the oil volume by the gas volume.
Unlike other four-strokes, the 4-MIX engine runs on a standard petrol-oil mix (1:50). A completely new feature is that the petrol-oil mix is distributed through the engine via a bypass channel in the cylinder head for complete lubrication.
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
A ratio is a unit-less way of expressing the amount of one quantity relative to another. So for a ratio of product to water of 1:4, for every 1 litre of concentrated product you would need to add 4 litres of water to make up a total of 5 litres of diluted liquid.
Many two-cycle models require a 40:1 gas-to-oil ratio (i.e. 3.2 fluid ounces of two-cycle oil for every one gallon of gas), but some older models may require a 50:1 or 30:1 ratio. The equipment`s recommended ratio is usually listed on the engine housing. If you don`t see it there, check the owner`s manual.
