How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

As mentioned above, one solution would be to replace the entire length of cable if you are comfortable opening up the hedge trimmer. Local garden tool repair shops can also do this for you.
Voltage: Most battery-powered hedge trimmers have an 18 to 80-volt battery. However, most high-performing hedge trimmer batteries are at least 40 volts.
It`s not necessary to lubricate the blades of a hedge trimmer to prevent rusting because they are pre-hardened rust resistant steel. However, you can use a lubricant to clean the blades, we recommend a light spray on lubricant such as WD-40 to give a thin coating.
The first thing to do is to ensure that the battery is fully charged. If after charging the battery you are still experiencing the problem, then it may indicate a fault with either the battery or charger. The defective item will need to be replaced.
Power tool cords that get accidentally cut or hacked can be permanently repaired in minutes with heat shrinkable tubing and a soldering gun.
Accidentally cut your good, heavy-duty extension cord? Replacement cords are expensive, and you can save money by just repairing it. Instead of splicing, add a new plug on the piece of the cord with the receptacle and a new receptacle on the piece of the cord with the plug.
The energy power range of electric hedge trimmers will be from 2.5 – 4.5 amps. Remember the higher the amperage of a trimmer, the more powerful the engine will work to complete your task.
Corded electric hedge trimmers: These trimmers are all you need for lighter trimming close to the house. They tend to be far cheaper—some are only about $50—and can run indefinitely as long as they`re plugged in.
Cooking oil

Whether it`s olive, canola, or vegetable oil, its uses can extend past the kitchen as a cheap WD-40 alternative. The greasy texture of cooking oil makes it a great lubricant, and it`s a good multipurpose oil, too.

For best operation and longer blade life, lubricate the hedge trimmer blade with a lightweight machine oil before and after each use.

Inside the cord attaches to a plastic wheel which cranks the engine. This cord can become loose or can break after some use. Try opening the plastic casing where the cord is to see if this is the problem.

Blades wont move when power connected. Stripped it down. Motor is fine. I think it must be the gears attached to the blade unit
ANSWER : Either the gears, OR SOME machines have a “CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH” [a safety feature] between the engine and the blades.

IF your machine has this feature, then it’s possible that the clutch has worn out and is slipping so badly that the blade won’t move.

I have pulled the cord out of my gas powered trimmer. What is the easiest way to fix this
ANSWER : Remove the pull start mechanism, remove the old rope from the inside plastic, thread a new rope through the hole in the outside and through the hole in the plastic center where you removed the old rope, Now reach between the spool and the edge of the casing and pull some slack in the rope, there will be a notch in the spool, set the rope into the notch and begin spinning the spool to make tension in the spring ( correct direction is the same way the rope is spooled in. go until you have good tension on spring, grab rope left outside casing and pull through, then let rope get pulled into the spool with the spring tension you have created. Now just reattach the handle.

How do i replace the pull cord on the ht-22 homelite gas hedge trimmer.I can not find the manual on line…….
ANSWER : Remove the housing with the coil in it. Remove the screw on it, its the screw with about 3/8 washer on it. It is where the old rope was hooked up, and should still have a piece of it under the washer. It has a D shaped groove under it. take the new rope and burn the frays on it make it stiff and small. Turn the pulley around and around until it gets real tight, and align the hole in the pulley with the hole in the shroud. Take a c clamp or visegrips and clamp it in place if you can. I just hold it, then feed the rope through the hole in the shroud and pulley and rap it round D shape groove. Replace the screw and washer. Tighten it up then let go of pulley. It should zip up real quick and all way to the handle, and be real tight.
