The Hydro-Gear® transaxles on an Ariens® zero turn lawn mower are not directly driven by the lawn mower engine itself, but by a belt. The transaxle drive belt is routed through an engine pulley, idler pulleys and the pulleys on the top of the transaxles.
To measure the width, a measuring tape can be used to measure the length of the belt from one side to the other. The thickness of the belt is typically measured with a caliper or micrometer. Once the length, width and thickness are determined, the correct size belt can be purchased to fit the lawn mower.
As a rule of thumb, your belt size is two inches larger than your pant`s waist size. For example, if you wear size 36 pants, you will probably do well with a size 38 belt. The leather and style of belt you choose can go a long way in showcasing your buckle and expressing your personal style.
There is no specific time length that mower belts need to be replaced. Some belts may last longer than others due to different operating conditions. One thing is for certain though, the more the mower is used, the sooner you will need to consider replacing the mower belt.
