How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Avoid tilling in wet soil as soil compaction can occur and lead to poor root penetration in the growing season. If it rains, it`s best to wait a few days to allow soil to become semi-dry.
If the rotary tiller still doesn`t start:
Check that the fuel tank isn`t empty: if necessary, add fuel. The fuel must be fresh, of good quality and clean: make sure that no dirt, water or incompatible fuel (such as petrol-oil mixture, if the engine is a 4-stroke) gets into the tank.
Tiller: Why won`t my tillers wheels or tines turn? A broken drive belt, bad transmission or problem with the clutch cable can prevent a tiller`s wheels and tines from turning. Check the drive belt and replace it if it`s worn or broken.
Can a tiller cut through roots? Tillers can cut through smaller roots without much problem. The maximum size of roots that the machine can cut through depends on the tiller`s size and power, as well as the blades` size. However, running into overly large roots can stop, or even damage your tiller.
If the garden soil that you are planning on tilling is too dry, you should consider adding water to it before you till. Less is usually more, but water to a depth of about 4 inches. Let the water penetrate the soil before you begin the tilling process. This will usually take a day or two.
One of the most common problems, especially because rototillers often sit unused for months, is stale fuel or a clogged carburetor. If you know you have fresh fuel, you can check for carburetor blockage by spraying a small amount of carb cleaner into the intake and attempting to start the engine.
Your lawn mower turning over but not starting due to several reasons, such as a faulty or disconnected plug, a disconnected spark plug wire, a clogged air filter, or a contaminated fuel tank. A faulty carburetor, a dirty cutting deck, or a dysfunctional flywheel brake can also cause this.
Slowly pull the starter until the starter engages and then pull firmly. Once the motor has started, set the desired motor speed using the throttle. To stop the engine set the throttle to `stop`.
Make sure that the fuel tank is completely empty. Then you can put the fuel pipe with the fuel filter on it back inside and close it up. Your tiller is ready to go through winter. Store it in a dry place, out of reach of children.
A powered tiller or cultivator will make removing grass or sod easier. While purchasing power equipment will add to your total cost, choosing the right tool may save you time and labor.

During the winter months, you should drain the fuel tank, then run your tiller until there is no fuel left in the system. Doing this will prevent the gas from causing blockages and creating gunk in the fuel line due to sitting idly.
