How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
The symptoms that indicate a bad solenoid on a riding mower are difficulty starting the engine, engine stalls or shuts off suddenly, reduced engine power and performance. Moreover, it would also go through a decrease in fuel efficiency, and an unsteadiness in idling, lastly, the engine cranks but doesn`t start.
A choke valve is sometimes installed in the carburetor of internal combustion engines. Its purpose is to restrict the flow of air, thereby enriching the fuel-air mixture while starting the engine.
Where can you find the engine stop solenoid? The stop solenoid is usually located at the entrance to the fuel injection pump or in the fuel line before the fuel injection pump. At a state of rest, the solenoid will have no power and need to be energised to allow the engine to run.
Weak or Corroded Fuel Pump.

If the fuel pump in your car goes bad, gas won`t be able to flow from the tank to the engine, and it simply won`t be able to run on its own. So we`ll simply recommend that you have the pump replaced.

A fuel shut off solenoid device of a carburetor has a solenoid chamber which typically fills with fuel. When the solenoid device is energized, fuel flows from a fuel chamber into a mixing passage of the carburetor to mix with air.
The solenoid alters the oil flow in the conduit leading to the camshaft phaser(s). Conduits can be “instructed” to hasten or delay intake valve opening depending on which conduit will be called upon by the solenoid.
The drain solenoid on a dishwasher opens the drain valve when the dishwasher`s solid state timer control applies an electric current to it during the drain cycle. The drain solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to operate the drain valve.

Need to know what carb screw adjustment need to be set at weedeater starts for about 4-7 sec then shuts down put new hoses on checked gas filter and cap checked out ok. i pump the ball about 10 times ,pull cord &starts for about 4-7 sec then shuts down, like no gas or electrical problem. i played with the screw settings & dont know where they shoould be set at . had carb all apart ,put in new plug doesnt seem to matter what i do it does the same thing . any thoughts?also when it starts the motor will rev up when u hit the gas and when it shuts down the gas hose from the tank is still full of gas
ANSWER : If there is a choke adjustment you should set that at full until the trimmer warms up, don’t touch the gas. Then repull start at half choke, don’t touch the gas either at this time. Then start at no choke, and then set your idle on the carberator with the adjustment screw. Also don’t push the primer bulb so many time you will cause the spark plug to get flooded and drown out the spark, which is exactly what is happening.

Engine will not start. good spark, have cleaned carb, but still does not want to fire. have added fuel down carb and have been able to get motor to fire for a moment but seems like I am not getting fuel to come from the carb
ANSWER : There is a solenoid on the bottom of the bowl on the carburator. This solenoid shuts off the fuel when the key is in the off position. Remove the gas line, remove the connector on the solenoid and unscrew it from the bowl. Plug the connector back in with the solenoid removed and watch to see if the solenoid is pulling in the rubber stopper when you turn on the key. If not, check that the solenoid is receiving power. If not it’s probably in the wiring. If it has power and doesn’t operate, you need a new solenoid.

Setting the carb twe jets – Poulan Wild Thing 2375 18" Gas Chain Saw 2.5 Cuin
ANSWER : These people explain better than anyone else I have found. The sound files are very helpful too.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com

CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
There are 2 wav (sound – idle & full – not highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Chain saw carburator settings for husqvarna 61
ANSWER : Turn both screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting and the engine should start and run. Allow the engine to warm up, then pull the throttle full on. Turn the H jet screw CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-strokes. Proper adjustment occurs when the engine is 4-stroking, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This gives best power and lowest heat. Release the throttle and adjust L jet CW until the engine idles fairly well, but will allow the engine to ‘follow the throttle’. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!
