Step 6: Set the air gap at 0.025 inches using a feeler gauge.
Most of our handheld engine spark plugs should be gapped at either: A) For 28-32 cc engines, set the gap at 0.020″ (0.5 mm). B) For 38-55 cc engines, set the gap at 0.025″ (0.635 mm).
The gap setting is different for each vehicle but most are somewhere between 0.028″ and . 060″. Consult the owner`s manual or Champion ® catalog to find the recommended setting for the vehicle you`re working on.
The incorrect plug gap for your engine can contribute to a high rate of misfires, loss of power, plug fouling, poor fuel economy and accelerated plug wear. It is always best to check the gap against the manufacturer`s specifications.
The spark plug gap should be set to between 0.028 and 0.030 inches (0.70 to 0.80 mm.)
As a general rule, you should change the spark plug approximately every 100 hours.
A: This spark plug should have a gap set to 0.02 inches.

STRING KEEPS BREAKING ON A TROY BILT WEED EATER TB539E
Take a look at the hole in the spool where the business end of the string comes through. There should be a smooth metal grommet or smooth short tube there. If the metal is missing, then the string is breaking because it rubs against plastic and heats up very quickly. Or the tube or grommet might have a rough or sharp spot. You might be able to polish it up with a Dremmel type of tool.

Weed eater won’t run
Sounds like you may just have a dirty carburetor.Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to seedaylight through it.)Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start. If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.If you need further assistance, just let me know.Jim

Your fuel lines are probably old & brittel they are the first thing to leak on those sometimes they leak around the tank but they are really thin lines & they get hot from engine heat & dry rot easly replace both lines from carb to tank & the leak will be gone most lines are 1/4 lines in most cases
