How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Your zero turn mower is weak on one side because of one or more of many reasons: traction adjustment being wrong, dragging drum brake, bad dampers, incorrect balance, tire compression does not match, or there is air trapped in the hydrostatic motor.
Low tire air pressure on the slow side. A worn drive belt that is too loose on the trans. farthest from the tensioner.
The reasons why mower is not moving forward or reverse is that the battery is dead, or due to clogged fuel line. Additionally, malfunctioning transmission, or a broken drive belt, also a faulty spark plug, even when friction wheel isn`t in contact with the friction plate, or damaged Tires.
If your lawn mower turns on but won`t move, there could be a number of potential causes. The most common issues include a broken or damaged belt, a clogged discharge chute, a broken or damaged drive cable, or a damaged or clogged transmission.
Failure of any mechanical component, a broken hose, or clogged filter will cause tractor hydrostatic transmission problems. But the most common issue will be the oil itself. In the transmission section of your operator`s manual, you`ll find a section that covers oil viscosity.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
Dirty Filters and Spark Plug

If you suspect a dirty air filter, try removing it and then starting the engine. Clean or replace the filter if the engine turns over. The spark arrestor, located behind the muffler, may also be clogged. If you`re sure the air filters are clear, the spark plug may not be firing.

Grinding gears, starting and stopping during operation, and the wheels not rotating with the pulley are common signs that your mower`s transmission is breaking down.
Worn or broken blade drive belt – If the riding mower blades are not spinning, the blade drive belt may be worn or broken and unable to engage the blades. If the belt is intact, inspect it to see if it`s loose or slipping on the pulleys then replace it with a new one if necessary.
Transmission

Zero turn mowers use hydrostatic transmissions (HST) in order to drive the mower. The transmission is made up of wheel pumps that circulate hydraulic oil to create energy that is converted to energy in your wheel motors that ultimately drive the mower.

Zero-turn mowers have separate hydraulic pumps driving the left and right tires, and each side is controlled separately. One tire can be turning forward, while the other is turning in reverse; thus, the mower can pivot around its own center. This feature allows amazing versatility in trimming while mowing.
A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die

By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel.

Zero-turn mowers use transaxle transmission.
One of the disadvantages of hydrostatic drives is that the majority of the oil stays in the loop and doesn`t return to the reservoir for cooling. One way to return some of the oil back to the tank is by using a hot oil shuttle valve.
You Lose Power in the Middle of Mowing:

Here`s why this happens and what you can do: Dirty Air Filter on Your Lawn Mower: Clean or replace. Dirty Spark Plug: Clean or replace. Build Up of Clippings & Debris: Clean underside of your lawn mower deck as noted above.

Possible cause 1: In some models, when you tip the mower, fuel can leak into the carbon in the cap, which restricts the venting of the fuel system. This can cause the engine not to start, or only run for a few minutes, then quit. POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Leave the cap to dry out or replace it with a new lawn mower cap.

What Are The Causes of Uneven Cuts from Your Lawn Mower. The causes of uneven cuts from your lawn mower are worn or dull blades, incorrect tire pressure, bent blades, or a clogged deck with grass. Also, due to the deck not being leveled, having an uneven spindle, or the belt may be in bad shape or at low speed.

If not, you either have a charging problem (not likely if the battery isn’t dead after using the mower) or you have a current drain.
