If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it. Need help finding your model number? The PTO switch provides power to the PTO clutch.
Powershift PTO engagement problems could be from blocked hoses or fittings, bad connections or ground or the solenoid. Mechanical PTO engagement problems could originate from low air pressure, improper cable installation or back lash too tight.
Check that all the safety switches are working correctly, it is possible the seat switch is bad or loose plug/ bad wire. Also if battery weak or charging system weak/faulty the clutch will stall out engine, charge battery up with charger and try.
Pump trouble is usually characterized by increased noise, increased heat, erratic operation of cylinders, difficulty or inability to develop full output, decreased speed of cylinders or hydraulic motors, or failure of the system to work at all.
The PTO shaft should be greased regularly to keep the universal joints from failing and to stop the shaft from seizing. Failure to grease your shaft regularly or as outlined in the PTO shaft`s maintenance schedule could result in end thrust potentially destroying the implement`s gearbox.
A company gives its employees a set amount of PTO hours, which reset annually. Some employers reset PTO hours by hire date; others reset them on January 1.

I need to replace the pto clutch on my cub cadet 2160, how do I remove the outside bolt? it turns with the engine
Best way is to use an impact gun. second way would be to use a pipe wrench on the shaft if theres room. use some liquid wrench to loosen it up too
My Johndeere 2510 pto will engage. But you have to apply pressure to keep the pto turning is there a pto clutch adjuster and how do you adust it.
Its actually the clutch not disengaging enough for pto to engage or the teath are worn down on pto shaft
When you replace the pto clutch (717-04080), does it have a tight fit with a bracket or does it have a little play.
There shouldn’t be any play in it. This should fit snug unless you have rubber bushings on the bracket mount to help compensate the torque of the belt engaging.
What is the Function of the pto control
It is to supply power the electric clutch that drives the mower deck.
If not functioning then the switch, PTO clutch, or wiring is not working properly. Note on some ZTRs when both handles are in reverse then electric clutch is disengage for safety.
I was mowing and the blades stopped turning. I disengaged and re-engaged the blades a few times and they started back. Then a few minutes later the blades stopped again then the motor stopped and will not start.
I have no idea what type or model of mower you have but if I was to guess I would say it has an electric pto clutch on it, if so remove your pto belt and clutch. I would bet it is burned out and locked up preventing your motor from turning over. Once the clutch is removed I will bet it will start and run fine. This is not a cheap fix but relatively easy one. Hope this helps.
