How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Loss of spark is caused by anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. This includes worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad plug wires or a cracked distributor cap.
If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.
A spark plug might be defective and needs to be replaced.

If your chainsaw has a defective spark plug, it cannot create an electrical current to ignite the system. Remove the spark plug and inspect if it is dirty, cracked, eroded, or damaged. There may also be a heavy carbon buildup or a burned-up electrode.

If the spark is a big fat one, then the condenser is bad and needs to be replaced. 2. If no spark is visible, check to see if the points or wires are shorting to ground either at the points or at the primary terminal screw going through the housing.
NO-SPARK DIAGNOSIS

If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit). If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).

When couples say they no longer feel a “spark,” it may mean that they`re missing the initial feeling of infatuation or that long-term commitment has become challenging. Meeting your partner and falling in love may have felt exciting, new, and intense. You might have felt that it was the only factor in your life.
If you have an electric chainsaw that won`t start, first make sure that the power cable is connected to the mains, then check whether the cable and plug are damaged. If they aren`t, the problem could lie in the motor which, for example, may have worn or damaged brushes.
The low voltage primary circuit operates at battery voltage (12 to 14.5 volts) and is responsible for generating the signal to fire the spark plug at the exact right time and sending that signal to the ignition coil.

A Bad Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

If the crankshaft position sensor has failed completely, it will not send a signal to the (ECU) at all. Then, the computer won`t send any fuel to the injectors. This will leave you unable to start the car.

What are the symptoms of a bad coil on my Poulan chainsaw? Mine only sparks at high RPM’s, as tested with my electic drill motor spinning the engine and grounding the removed spark plug to the engine head. I don’t want to buy a new coil if that may not be the problem. I’ve already checked the kill switch wiring and the high tension spark plug wire itself, as well as trying several different plugs.
Thanks! -Rob
ANSWER : There has to be a reasonable spark at hand cranking speed, with most electronic ignitions they work off speed of rotation so you do need to crank the engine at a fair speed, check the air gap between the flywheel magnet and the ignition core, this should be around 0.3mm, if there is not spark at all when cranked well it will be a replacement unit required.

Had no spark so ordered a new coil – installed new coil and still will not start – this machine is not old and only used about 15 hours total – seems quite expensive to blow a few leaves if I have to purchase a new one. The coil alone was over $50.00 – not too smart on my part, should have gone and purchased a new one.
ANSWER : Did you have a shop do a compression test on the cylinder before you bought the new ignition module. If the compression on the cylinder is not at least 100 psi, A new ignition module would not have helped. May be time to get some more money together and bought a better one. You get what you pay for.Good Day.

My chainsaw has no spark, I have checked the spark plug and it works on another unit, i guess it may be the ignition, ho0wever as it is a small coil I have no way of checking. can the coil be simply tested, otherwise can one be purcahsed.
ANSWER : Yes the coil can be tested. you would need to know the proper specs but with a multimeter you should be able to get a resistance value from your plug wire to ground. With my experience 10000 – 30000 ohms should allow it to run. If this is no help one common thing is your kill switch. A wire should run from the coil to the switch, if this wire is shorted to ground it will not run.

How to replace ignition coil on asthil 029
ANSWER : Coil should be held on the saw with 2 torx t27 size screws. These will resemble a star. Remove the 2 screws, lift out the coil. The small wire should be attached with a spade connector, slide the spade off with needle nose pliers. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug, & thread it out of the saw as you remove the coil. Assembly is reverse order of removal. For clearance, loosen coil screws, alike coil away from flywheel

My wipper snipper has no spark, Ihave bridged out the switch to make sure its not the switch, new spark plug ,correct gap .
ANSWER : The switch is a kill switch that grounds out the spark, at least that is how mine is. So assuming you have it correct, and new plug, that leaves the ignition coil. Only component left.
