How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
A common cause of belt breakage is excessive grass clippings on the deck. Grass clippings can work their way under pulleys and deck covers, causing series problems. Make sure to clean off your deck after every mower use and follow manufacturer recommendations.
Your riding mower belt keeps coming off because of several possible causes such as a damaged, dirty, or incorrectly installed belt. This problem can also be due to an oil leak, damaged mower pulleys, damaged bearings, or a misaligned or stretched out belt.
If a belt is not tensioned properly, it will ride too loose or too tight on the pulley. A belt that`s too loose on a pulley will cause slippage, which leads to heat build up from friction. This heat will damage your rubber belts and cause the belts to crack and break.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the lawn mower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
Extremes of hot and cold can cause the rubber to develop minor cracks in the outer surface of the belt. This can cause the timing belt to need replacing faster. Keeping your car in a garage rather than outside can help to reduce the extent of the changes of temperature to which your timing belt is subjected.
To even out the tension in the belt, use a spanner or socket wrench on the crankshaft-pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft two full turns clockwise . Tighten the locking bolt first to hold the tensioner in its new position. Tighten the pivot-spring bolt, which has a precise torque setting.
There is no specific time length that mower belts need to be replaced. Some belts may last longer than others due to different operating conditions. One thing is for certain though, the more the mower is used, the sooner you will need to consider replacing the mower belt.
The general rule is if there are three or more cracks within a three-inch section of the belt, then your belt needs replacing.
Belts, pulleys and tensioners should be inspected on a regular basis, with each oil change performed on the vehicle. Some of the symptoms to look and listen for are: Belt Cracking – 3 or more cracks in a 3” section means it is time to replace it.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
One of the most common reasons that a lawn mower might stall while it is cutting grass is that it is being overworked. This is a mechanism that is intentionally incorporated into the mower to prevent the motor from being blown.

Look for the belt, which is usually found in the lawn mower deck. Check the pulleys that the mower drive belt rides on. Place your hand on the belt and push the belt down and toward the pulleys. Check on how the belt gives way to your pressure; it should not be loose enough to give way more than a few inches.

I cant replace the deck belt on my husqvarna ct151 lawn mower. the old one snapped and i have no idea what way the new one goes on around the pulley wheels.
ANSWER : The manual shows how the belts are put on, if you do not have one they may be purchased through dealers or small engine repair shops or online. On mine there is also a little diagram on the top of the mower deck. Another way to check is find an identical one that is functional and look at its belt. There are only so many ways it could fit and these are all made by just one or two manufacturers so there is not much variance.
