efore the drive would slowly engage and eventually work n
Husqvarna

I have a Husqvarna YTH2242 lawn tractor that will not go into drive. It worked fine in its last use, although it regularly needed to warm up before the drive would slowly engage and eventually work normally. Now, however, it won't engage at all even after the warmup. The freewheel control is in the engaged position. The manual's troubleshooting guide suggests replacement of the motion drive belt. Do I need to take the mower deck off to do that? Is this something a simpleton like me can handle or is is best left to the dealer-mechanic. Many thanks for any thoughts or suggestions

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your Husqvarna mower starts and then shuts off after 5 to 10 minutes or so, the problem is likely fuel related. Husqvarna says this may be due to a clogged fuel filter, restriction in the pick up or an improperly vented fuel cap. A clogged fuel filter restricts the flow of fuel to the tractor`s carburetor.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the lawn mower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
What`s happening? This is a normal function of the seat safety switch. With the blades engaged, weight from the operator allows the seat safety switch to keep the engine running.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die

By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel. Contrary to what the movies might make you think, gasoline itself is not very flammable.

If your lawn mower starts, runs for a while, then dies, check the ignition coil, gas cap, and spark plug. One or more of these parts could be causing your problem. Follow our repair and symptom guide to help you fix this.
Your lawn mower runs for 30 minutes then dies if you are having issues such as a bad spark plug, air problems, a malfunctioning carburetor, or a faulty gas cap. You may even encounter the issue that your lawn mower runs for 5 minutes then dies.
If you take good care of your Husqvarna riding lawn mower and follow the standard maintenance procedures mentioned above, it should last for many years to come. With regular use and proper care, you can expect your mower to last around 600-800 hours or more.
If your lawn mower starts, runs briefly, then dies these are the four most common reasons that`s happening: Dirty carburetor / clogged carburetor bowl. Old gasoline that has gone bad. Dirty or defective spark plugs.
Condensation inside the gas tank is one culprit, but moisture can also enter the system through a loose or ill fitting gas cap. The best solution is to drain the mower`s gas tank and refill it with fresh gasoline. A clogged fuel filter can also cause a mower engine to die.
Use Carburetor Cleaner

Fortunately, you can generally do this without even taking the carburetor out of the engine. Start by purchasing some commercial lawnmower carburetor cleanerOpens a new window, which comes in a simple spray can and will make it easy to clean the inside and outside of the carb.

The most common reason for a riding mower cranking over but not starting is bad gas, but other possible reasons include: Gas Valve Off. No Gas. Choke Fault.
The most common reason for a no start, not even a click sound, is a totally flat battery, but other likely causes include: Transmission in Drive. Brake Pedal not Pressed. Blade Switch / Lever On.
Other things that could cause this issue are bad fuel, weak/colapsed/kinked fuel line, faulty spark plug, faulty ignition/coil, oil over full, clogged air filter, plugged/dirty carburetor, worn engine parts internal rings/valves/etc.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.
The most likely cause of a no-start mower after running out of gas is dirt in the carburetor, but other possible causes include: Air locked gas system. Faulty carburetor. Contaminated gas.
A bad spark plug often causes an engine cylinder to misfire or sound like it`s struggling. The engine might even stall out completely while you are mowing. You may also notice that it becomes increasingly more difficult to restart the mower each time that it dies.
However, a good rule of thumb is to check the oil level once for every five hours of continuous use and to change the oil a minimum of once per season.
The Husqvarna Group (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈhʉ̂ːsˌkvɑːɳa ˈɡruːp]) is a Swedish manufacturer of outdoor power products including robotic lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, brushcutters, cultivators, and garden tractors.
A high-ticket riding mower with better tires should last between 1000 and 2000 hours if properly cared for. A smaller model can run for 500-1000 hours on average. The engine size of the large ones could even last 1500-2000 hours.
How long will a residential lawn mower last? The average residential mower is used for 1-2 hours per mow with 35 cuts per year. Based on that usage, a lower-quality line of residential mowers is expected to last 450-500 hours, while a John Deere residential lawn mower will last around 1,000-1,500 hours.
If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
