On the gas filler cap (if 2 cycle) there may be some writing telling the fuel oil mixture ratio. usually 40:1, if this is a 4 cycle engine, you don’t need to add anything but if you are going to keep the sae gas in it over winter or for a long time without use, you should add some “gas treatment” available at any automotive parts store, this will keep the gas from turning to gel. other additives to gas are usually a waste of money.

Help protect your 2-Cycle gas outdoor power equipment with the Homelite 2-Cycle oil. This oil is a 50:1 gas-to-oil ratio.
For a 32:1 mixture, use 4 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
The easiest way to tell a 2-cycle engine from a 4-cycle engine is the number of fuel tank and/or oil sump fill ports. A 2-cycle engine has one fill port with a cap that has fuel pump and oil can icon. The cap will usually state the oil to fuel mix ratio.
Accidentally Put Gas/oil Mix In Lawn Mower
New oil must be added to the oil tank. If you inject gasoline into the lawn mower`s oil tank, it will malfunction. If you put it that way, the engine will start up, and it will stop, which is the first indication that something is wrong.
Any two-stroke motor oil made for air-cooled engines, such those in chainsaws, water pumps and weed eaters, will work perfectly in your two-stroke lawn mower engine.
Most modern chainsaws, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small-engine two-stroke equipment recommend a 50:1 oil mix ratio, but some recommend 40:1 and older two-stroke equipment might even call for 32:1.
Many two-cycle models require a 40:1 gas-to-oil ratio (i.e. 3.2 fluid ounces of two-cycle oil for every one gallon of gas), but some older models may require a 50:1 or 30:1 ratio. The equipment`s recommended ratio is usually listed on the engine housing. If you don`t see it there, check the owner`s manual.
The ratio of produced gas to produced oil, commonly abbreviated GOR. The ratio of the volume of gas that comes out of solution to the volume of oil at standard conditions.
