The transmission that moves the auger is the most likely problem. If the Auger is a hydrostatic drive check the fluid in the drive unit.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
If the V-belt is worn out, misadjusted, or broken, the auger won`t turn. Inspect the V-belt to determine if it is broken or worn out. If the belt is broken or worn out, replace it. If the belt is not broken or worn out, ensure that the belt is properly adjusted, and adjust the belt if necessary.
If your snowblower won`t turn on or start, you can insert the key in the starter switch. There could be a problem with your starter switch or motor. To test the starter switch, you can use a multimeter. If the starter switch is not working properly, replace it.
If the auger doesn`t turn even though the main shaft is being powered and the shear bolts or pins are intact, then it`s likely the gears inside the gearbox have stripped and the gearbox assembly will need to be replaced.
Drain the Fuel
Even if the gas has been stabilized, we recommend completely draining your snow blower`s fuel system before storing it away for the season. Gas oxidizes and breaks down over time, creating sludge that can build up inside your snow blower`s fuel tank, carburetor and fuel lines.
Run Engine to Drain out Residual Gas Despite your pumping efforts, a bit of gas will remain behind in the snowblower. You can get rid of this by running the engine. Replace the cap to the fuel tank, start the engine, and let it run until it shuts off on its own due to lack of gas.
Examine the Belts
One or more of the belts slipping off the pulleys can be the cause of a snowblower not throwing snow. If they can be put back around the pulleys snugly, that might be all it needs. But if the belts are stretched or broken, they absolutely need to be replaced.
Turn off the snowblower engine and leave it to cool. Remove the carburetor bowl, float bowl and flathead. Spray and clean the dirty carburetor with a carburetor cleaner, removing debris with a cloth. Let it sit to remove impurities.
If your engine runs but the auger doesn`t turn, a problem with the drive train is the most likely situation. Frequently, the issue can be traced back to the flexible shaft core. The best way to determine if the flex shaft is the issue is to inspect the core end fittings for cracks or breakage.
A worn or stretched auger belt won`t spin the auger blades fast enough to throw snow off the pavement. This is why we recommend you replace the auger belt if it`s worn out or stretched. This is an easy repair, however it will vary slightly depending on your exact model.
