I have a craftsman kohler magnum 18hp lawn mower runs great but when I engage the blades it runs for a few seconds then the blades stop can’t figure it out?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there, I do not know the Craftsman mowers, but have experienced same problem with other makes. Suggest that you try the following, in this order. 1. Check that battery has water above top of plates. 2. Check that battery is well charged. Turn headlights on full and crank motor. If lights go VERY low then battery either needs charged from external mains charger or is defunct. Place large mirror in front to view lights during test. 3. Test that engine charging system is recharging battery during use. If battery is very low some systems will still start motor, but charger will not work. [Normally when this happens the dash charging light will show. Orange.]
The problem can be that as the electric clutch requires a lot of power to initiate the drive and a considerable load while running, if the battery is too low the engine generator cannot carry the load and so the system drops out. This may also stop the engine.

WILLARD, OHIO WITH GLOBAL MATERIALS

Proudly manufacturing select CRAFTSMAN® Riding Mowers and Snow Blowers using global materials.

Beginning in 2010, hand tools manufactured for Craftsman by Apex Tool Group (formerly known as Danaher) such as ratchets, sockets, and wrenches began to be sourced overseas (mainly in China, although some are produced in Taiwan), while tools produced for Craftsman by Western Forge such as adjustable wrenches, …
However, many users reported that using Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower for eight years or more is typical. Without proper maintenance, you can expect one-half of that lawnmower life expectation.
It has a 140cc Briggs and Stratton® engine featuring one-step starting, no priming needed.
Engines used in lawn mower applications usually have the model numbers stamped directly into the blower housing, muffler heat shield, or a few inches above the spark plug, as well as the fuel tank and the base of the engine block. Depending on the style of engine shroud used, the engine code numbers may be covered.
The CRAFTSMAN® M100 21-in push mower is ideal for smaller yards. It is powered by a reliable 140cc Briggs and Stratton® engine. The 2-in-1 deck allows you to mulch, helping to put nutrients back in the soil for a healthier lawn or side discharge.
An iconic American brand since 1927, CRAFTSMAN has built an extraordinarily loyal customer following worldwide.
Yes, Craftsman and DeWalt are Owned by Stanley Black & Decker. Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) turned heads when it bought Craftsman Tools in 2017 after Sears closed 235 stores in 2015.
Stanley Black & Decker bought the Craftsman brand from Sears Holdings Corp. in 2017. The deal, valued at $900 million, let both brands continue making and selling products under the Craftsman label.
This lawn and garden equipment company, a Sears subsidiary, offers entry-level and mid-range riding mowers and other tools. Quality construction: Craftsman has a reputation for quality parts, winning awards from Popular Mechanics and other organizations.
You can expect to get anywhere from six to ten years out of your riding mower, or longer with proper care and maintenance. Like most machines, riding lawn mower life varies depending on a number of factors including terrain, maintenance and upkeep, number of hours used, and more.
As a rough rule of thumb, a single-cylinder mower with 500-750 hours would be considered a high miler, but that`s not to say it`s all worn out. A well-maintained mower will go on and on, as said earlier, my own ride-on mower has about 1000 hours and still pulls its weight around here.
What year was my equipment built? The 5th character of our 11 character product serial numbers will indicate the last number of the year that it was manufactured. Since 5th character in the example is a 4, the year of manufacture would be a year ending in 4.
Finding your model number and serial number is as easy as locating the identification tag on your machine. As seen in the example, the model number will be displayed below the MODEL heading (Example: Z235), and the serial number will be underlined on the top-right corner of the tag (Example: 130002).
Generally, you can identify a Craftsman tool by the logo or the name that`s printed/embossed into the tools themselves. Craftsman as a brand hasn`t changed its name since Sears & Roebuck introduced it in 1927, so each tool should bear either the name or logo (usually somewhere on the handle).

I also checked the plug on another motor and I had spark so the plug wasn’t bad. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this or what may be wrong?

Lawn mower cranck but wont start…
ANSWER : Since you already checked for spark and air I would drain all the fuel out of it and check that fuel for water. Over time some lawn mowers end up with contaminated fuel. You can see the water sitting on the bottom of the fuel if you let it stand for a bit in a small plastic bowl.

Be sure to empty and dry out you fuel can as well. Especially if the mower stopped running right after a refuel. Which is a good sign your gas can is contaminated too.

ANSWER : All, I thought my carb was shot, so I replaced it. Still, start but no run (and had to use starting fluid). THEN!!! I noticed the spring to the “rev limiter” (just below and towards rear of carb) was not “tight”. The stupid bracket that holds the end of that spring had been bent down ~1/16″ and that caused all this heartache. CHECK YOUR REV LIMITER!!!
