How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

When trimming hedges, the pruning tools should be clean and sharp. This causes the least amount of damage to the plants and reduces the risk of disease. The strings of grass trimmers are not sharp. If used on hedges, the cut will be jagged because the strings do not cut as cleanly on thicker stems.
Hedge trimmer blades can be sharpened by hand, and it is recommended that you do so regularly: the job needs a flat file, a whetstone and a little careful attention.
We`re very pleased with the runtime we`re seeing from the Craftsman V60 battery Weedwacker. Testing at high speed with a light load, we ran for just over 30 continuous minutes. That`s plenty of trigger time to cover most lawns. Low nets you even more runtime.
The model number is printed on the left side of the Product Identification Label, attached to the metal bracket that supports the seat, and begins with the letters, “CM”.

Tips on cutting long grass

The objective is to use the line trimmer to cut the grass to a length that can be dealt with by a lawn mower. For very tough or very long grass, you might need to use a brush cutter. Some of our cordless garden tools incorporate a brush cutter head and a line trimmer.

What is the difference between a hedge trimmer and a hedge cutter? Usually, hedge trimmers are used for `light work` on branches and bushes. Tidying up and shaping shrubs is another of their functions. However, heavy-duty work is more suited to hedge cutters, for example, breaking down big branches and thicker bushes.
It`s not necessary to lubricate the blades of a hedge trimmer to prevent rusting because they are pre-hardened rust resistant steel. However, you can use a lubricant to clean the blades, we recommend a light spray on lubricant such as WD-40 to give a thin coating.
Battery and power

A 20V battery is sufficient to do the average trimming job on a small- to medium-sized yard, or around 20 to 30 minutes of trimming on the highest setting.

A: Yes, battery can be left in the charger indefinitely.
A compact 2ah battery should last about 6-8 hours, so you get about 3-4 hours per ah.

Generally, you can identify a Craftsman tool by the logo or the name that`s printed/embossed into the tools themselves. Craftsman as a brand hasn`t changed its name since Sears & Roebuck introduced it in 1927, so each tool should bear either the name or logo (usually somewhere on the handle).
All Craftsman sockets and wrenches are proudly made in the USA.

16-inch or smaller blades are ideal for small and average-sized hedges. 18-inch blades are ideal for average and larger-sized hedges. 20-inch and larger blades are the best hedge trimmers for thick branches and ideal for large, established hedges.
Properly pruning a tree limb

Keep your cuts at a 45-degree angle to prevent water damage and disease.

For this reason, some people prefer to mow at 3 or 3.5 inches. For the healthiest and most sustainable approach, Michigan State University Extension says 3.5 to 4 inches is most desirable. Lawns mowed at 3.5 or 4 inches out-compete weeds, tolerate grubs and look just as good as lawns mowed at 2.5 inches.
The grasses will set seed, wildflowers can bloom and provide nectar, and the longer stems will create a sheltered microclimate. Avoid using strimmers too, as they can injure hedgehogs, frogs and insect larvae. If you can resist mowing your lawn until late summer, this will mimic the hay meadows of old.
Hedge trimmers feature a cutting bar, with lengths ranging from about 18 to 26 inches. Those with a longer cutting bar can tackle larger shrubs and clear more with each pass. But they`re also harder to use; a bar that`s too long can feel unwieldy.
There are three major types of hedge trimmers: double-sided, single-sided and pole hedge trimmers.
Generally speaking, a trimmer cuts closer than a clipper.

ANSWER : Either the gears, OR SOME machines have a “CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH” [a safety feature] between the engine and the blades.

My hedge trimmer will not start… Put in new gas
ANSWER : It’s not getting gas, due to being gummed up with old gas. Remove all of the old gas and mix up a batch of fresh gas&oil. Also get some carb cleaner. Put just a little of the gas&oil mix plus an equal part carb cleaner. Try to start it just to work the new mixture through the carb. You might use the spray start to help pull the new gas through. If it fires up on the new gas&oil&carbcleaner mix, shut it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Drain it out and try just a little gas&oiil without the carb cleaner. If all is well fill the tank. If not, repeat the whole process. If you can’t clear the gum this way you may have to remove the carb to clean it.
Good luck.
