Briggs & Stratton
I have a briggs & Stratton 675 series engine in a Craftsman front wheel drive rotary mower which won't start. It was fully serviced and used 3 times this season but now it won't start. It keeps trying to backfire. I've checked the carb and cleaned it inside and out, replaced fuel with fresh and cleaned all electrical switches. Battery is fully charged. Cranking the engine produces a spark and there is fuel in the cylinder but still it won't start. I think that somehow the timing has moved. How do I correct this?

Riding Mower Clicks but Doesn`t Crank
When you hear a click as you turn the key, a weak battery, bad starter solenoid, faulty wiring, failed starter motor or a seized engine could be the cause. This DIY troubleshooting will help you figure out what to fix.
Press the clutch pedal with the left foot (if the car is manual) Press the brake pedal with the right foot (automatic and manual cars) If the car has a key, turn the key to start the engine and let go as soon as the engine has started.
The vast majority of the small engines Briggs & Stratton manufactures are 4-cycle engines, which require four strokes of the piston to complete a crankshaft revolution.
The clicking noise comes from a part called the starter solenoid. The solenoid connects the battery to the starter motor when the solenoid is energized. The key switch and the safety switches in the starter circuit combine to energize the solenoid. If the solenoid is clicking, the circuit that triggers it is working.
The most likely cause of a no-start mower after running out of gas is dirt in the carburetor, but other possible causes include: Air locked gas system. Faulty carburetor. Contaminated gas.

My mower is about 2 months old. Haven’t had any issues until last night. I think I ran out of gas (maybe not, it was getting dark). I filled it up, and won’t stay running. Barely starts unless it is tilted way back (like handle on the ground all the way back), then it runs like a champ. If it is level, it will barely run until it dies. This is on concrete, and there is nothing underneath.
ANSWER : Hello,It sounds like there is sediment in the carb bowl. Remove the gas line from the carb and plug the line with a phillips head screwdriver. Remove the bolt in the bottom of the bowl and carefully tap on the bowl to loosen it without damaging the rubber gasket. Clean the bowl, and blow the ports in the bolt out. Raise and lower the float inside the bowl space to make sure that it is working freely. Re-assemble making sure to seat the rubber gasket properly. If there is sediment in the bowl, you might also consider an inexpensive in-line gas filter ($6 at Lowe’s, etc.).Best regards,–W/D–
Craftsman 6.75 self-propelled…This is for a friend of mine. She has a broken arm and her mower will not operate as it should. The self-propelled function is not working. She spoke with someone who suggested that a cable may need to be tightened. The problem is, she sees two cables and isn’t sure which one needs tightening. I’m away from home, and unable to physically help her. This seems to be the only problem with the mower. Any help you can give is appreciated.
Rob
ANSWER : The self propel lever is the bottom one, the top one is the running lever. Have her check the cable coming out of that one.
