The carburetor might be clogged and needs to be cleaned.
A chainsaw`s carburetor mixes air and fuel to start the internal combustion engine. If fuel has been left in the engine for too long, it can become sticky and clog the carburetor, preventing it from starting. If the clog is minor, clean out the carburetor.
If your saw idles fine, and then bogs down when pressing the throttle, then adjust your `H` screw by unscrewing. This will increase the amount of fuel to the carburetor under load. If your saw idles fine, then runs lumpy with a lot of smoke when pressing the throttle, then adjust your `H` screw by screwing in.
Common Symptoms of Bad Gas:
The engine won`t start. The primer bulb isn`t working. There is a bad smell in the gas tank. The engine isn`t revving up all the way.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
This could be a number of things and is most likely fuel or storage related. Over a short period of time, fuel will become stale. If the unit is stored with stale gasoline, the system will become clogged or restricted. Fuel related failures are not warranty.
Many people wonder if a flooded chainsaw will fix itself? The answer is yes, but not always. By letting the chainsaw sit for about 20 minutes it will allow some of the fuel inside the engine to evaporate.

If the filter becomes clogged, not enough fuel will reach the engine for it to run properly. Because your chainsaw will idle, but dies when it is revved up to full power, it means that the filter is only partially clogged; it will allow enough fuel to the engine to run on idle, but not enough to sustain full throttle.

It’s brand new, when I finally get it started it will run good for about 1 min. or less, and then it dies. I pull the choke out all the way, pull it a couple of times, push it half way in, it starts but it’s like it doesn’t have the power to turn the chain, bogging out and then it dies, I will never buy another homelite product, or recommend anyone else to, this is my second one, the first one leaked gas, Home Depot really should quit selling them, there making you look bad too!!
ANSWER : Hi paulbonser… Set your point gap to .20 using a feeler gauge… You can also use a paper matchbook cover, it ia approx. .20 to set the gap on the points. Please take time tor rate me

SAW WONT START IT HAS FIRE TO THE PLUG AND IT WONT START WHEN I SHOOT A LITTLE ETHER IN IT
ANSWER : If the engine has good compression, and good spark, it should at least ‘pop’ several times. Check the flywheel ‘key’ as it may have sheared causing the ignition to be out of time. Hope this helps!

Chain saw chain is loose
ANSWER : Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!

I used my brand new Husqvarna chain saw for about 30 minutes then when I pinched the blade a little bit and it kicked back out at me, the chain stopped moving. I can’t even turn it by hand. The engine runs but you can tell it run wide open. and the gear that runs the chain doesn’t move either. Please help.
ANSWER : The chainbrake has actuated, you need to pull the hand gurd fully toward the rear of the machine until you hear the click of the brake unloading.

My Mcculloch chain saw has fire at spark plug gap. The plug is wet after trying to start it. Gas lines are clear. I can feel compression with my finger over the plug hole while pulling the rope. It was running fine last time I used it, drained tank & ran it till it stopped running. It just does not even act like it will start, can it be the reed valve stuck?

ANSWER : It sounds like the compression is too low to fire the engine. Try starting it off choke with the throttle trigger open all the way.
