The top belt is the power clutch belt, also known as the PTO (power takeoff) belt. This is the easier one to replace because it`s on top and has a spring-loaded hand lever to remove the belt from the lawn mower for deck removal. The lower belt on the deck is called the arbor belt.
An easy way to determine belt size is to simply “add 2″ to your off-the-rack trouser size. For example, if you wear a 36” waist trouser, then a 38-belt size will be a safe bet. Most will find this simple formula works best for pants worn at a traditional height–close to the natural waistline.
Take your existing pants size and then add two inches to the number. For instance, if your pants waist size is 38, then your belt size would be 40. You can also find your belt size by measuring a belt you already own that fits well.

ANSWER : Your belt is not on right. MTDs use a tension system for the drive belts to control speed. You either missed a pulley or got one backwards.Check here for diagrams. You will need the model # for your tractor but is a good site for all kinds of mowers

Where can i get an ARIENS drive belt, new or used
ANSWER : Anyplace that sells Ariens mowers will have one. Most other lawn mower stores can also sell you one. Remove the old belt and take that and the model Airens you have to get a replacement. You do not want a used belt just get a new one.
