The model number (marked with red box in photo) on a Tecumseh engine can be found on the engine ID label, typically located under the engine cover. The label will also include other pertinent Tecumseh engine information such as the specification number and date of manufacture.
Even though Tecumseh small gasoline engines have not been made in the US since 2008, many models and parts are still in stock today. If you are searching for Tecumseh engines, the types of engines include the horizontal, short block, or vertical 2-cycle models and the 4-cycle model.
Finding the Engine Size for a Vehicle You Currently Own

You can find your vehicle`s engine size on your Window Sticker. It will be listed under “Vehicle Description” at the top of the window sticker.

The engine`s code number indicates the exact date it was manufactured. This system provides an easy way to determine the age of your small engine.
The Date of Manufacture (DOM) indicator may be found within the engine`s serial number. Locate the first four digits (all numbers) of the serial number.
However, the most accurate way is to look at the serial number on the block, which is located on the drivers side, rear, on the extended part of the deck surface that goes over the bell housing area. The date code for the engine is built into the serial number after the first two numbers.
How does engine size affect performance? As a larger engine is generally able to burn more fuel and produce more power, a car with a larger, more powerful engine is likely to be able to accelerate faster and tow heavier loads than a car with a smaller engine can manage.
Tecumseh engine products at one time were sold in over 120 countries. In December 2008, the company closed its engine manufacturing division.
The oil sump capacity is 21 ounces or 1-1/4 U.S. Pints (. 62 liters). Tecumseh special-formulated oils are available at your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer.
Your VIN number is your vehicle identification number and you can find your engine size by VIN number. In the series of numbers and letters, the tenth from the left denotes the model year and the eighth is the engine codes. Just tell the store clerk those two characters and you`re in business.
Vehicle identification numbers can reveal many things about automobiles, including their airbag type, country of origin, engine size, model year, vehicle type, trim level and plant name.
The eighth digit shows the car`s engine size and is usually represented by a letter. This is really helpful if you`re buying spare parts for your car, as is it ensures that you can find a spare that`s the exact match for the engine type.
All you need to do is look under the hood of your car to see how many cylinders it has. Simply look on the top or right side of your engine for blue, black, and red wires. These are plug wires, and each one is attached to a spark plug and cylinder. So, the number of these wires is the number of your cylinders.
Airplane engine numbering starts from the farthest left of the pilot`s view. It simply means that the engine located to the farthest left of the pilot is numbered one. If there are four engines in the airplane, the next closest engine is considered to be engine two.
The letters and numbers that make up an engine`s model number are a series of codes to tell you the engine family, the number of cylinders, the emissions standard, the type of ignition, the capacity, the type of aspiration and the generator set rating.
No. Both the numbers provide different identification of the car`s model and the engine number. While the Chassis Number provides details such as the manufacturing date, car model, engine type, fuel type, etc., the engine number is exclusive to the engine block.
To find the model number, look for a model number sticker on the engine. The engine type code is stamped into the side of the engine, usually close to the serial number. Engine type codes may be up to 4 characters.
If you`re having trouble finding the VIN number on your car`s dashboard, you can try looking for it near the engine. The VIN number is often stamped or engraved on the engine block.
x 2 7/8in. Shaft, Model# HM80-155714W.
Simple arithmetic makes that 5hp/26.6cc.
Tecumseh Products Company is an American manufacturer of hermetic compressors for air conditioning and refrigeration products.
Larger engines will generate more torque. That allows the use of a transmission that lets the engine run slower for the same given car speed. So while a four-cylinder engine might turn at 2,500 rpm at 65 mph, an eight-cylinder engine might turn at 1,800. That could contribute to longer life.
About 55 miles per hour is the optimum speed for most cars. Kick it up to 65 mph and you are 8 percent less efficient; at 80 mph you are 28 percent less efficient.
Compression. Increasing compression is the most productive way to increase horsepower. Build compression into your engine and you build in power. In more than a century of internal combustion, there has never been a more common sense way to make power.

Runs fine on flat ground will not pull a hill
ANSWER : Sounds like you could be running on one cylinder. I assume you have a two cylinder B&S, Tecumseh, or Kawasaki. Remove one spark plug at a time and try driving the mower. If you have nothing on one spark plug and drives exactly the same with the other, then you have a dead cylinder. Can be a spark problem, unlikely a fuel problem assuming a single carb, a bad head gasket, bent push rods. A lot of B&S Vanguard engines, including mine, have a tendency towards bent push rods.
