How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

String trimmer line comes in a range of thicknesses or sizes. For light work, such as trimming grass, 0.065″-0.085″ should be sufficient. For thicker grass and weeds, a line in the 0.085″-0.110″ range will get the job done, and for thicker underbrush, anything thicker than 0.110″ will work.
Line trimmers can only handle a specific range of line sizes (diameter) and it is important to get the right one for your machine. The wrong size of line will invariably slow you down. If you go too thick (i.e. heavy) it will not auto-feed in a bump head and it could cause damage to the machine in extreme cases.
A larger diameter will increase your cutting power and durability against thicker grasses and weeds. A lighter weight should be used on areas where there are a minimum of weeds. However, each trimmer can only handle a certain line diameter, check your owner`s manual for model specific recommendations.
Most string trimmers have a cutting diameter of 10-15 inches, meaning that the optimal line length will be about half of that, minus the central part of the trimmer head. Most guards are equipped with a discreetly placed blade that cuts off the excess and prevents the line from getting too long.
Most styles and weights are interchangeable, so you can use non-OEM (original equipment manufacturers) line. However, larger/heavier line may not fit every string trimmer.
The . 095″ diameter is designed to fit most gas string trimmers and works with all brands including Hyper Tough, Black Max, Snapper, Craftsman, Murray, Poulan Pro, Weed Eater, Husqvarna, Echo, Stihl, Ryobi, Black & Decker and more.

Trimmer line does tend to dry out over time and becomes more brittle. Storing it or soaking it in water will help reduce line breakage and make the line more flexible. Be sure to deplete your supply of last year`s line before you purchase new line and begin using it.
Nylon is the most common material in trimmer lines. It`s affordable, lightweight, and durable, with excellent tensile strength. Most commercial trimmer and professional landscaper use nylon lines due to the low cost of the material.
A hair trimmer is designed for styling shorter hair, including facial and body hair. They feature smaller blades than clippers, allowing them to cut closer to the skin.
Diameter and thickness

Thinner threads varying from 0.065 to 0.8 inches work well on regularly maintained lawns. They can provide a nice clean trim to softer grass while whacking smaller weed plants. However, you`d ideally want to go for thicker options when working on dense vegetation and thick grass.

The difference between a 13-inch cutting head and a 15-inch head is about 15 percent in both the cutting area and the speed of the string, but there`s more.

Need to replace fuel lines on my Troy Bilt gas hedge trimmer. Where can I get replacement fuel lines… or better yet… what size are the lines and where can I buy a few feet of the lines. Note: I have reviewed the parts assembly and it would seem to indicate I have to replace the entire handle assembly (Part #1) instead of just buying replacement hose(s). Any help to resolve my issue would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
ANSWER : Replacement fuel lines should be readily available at your local lawnmower repair shop. Your TroyBilt hedger uses fuel line that is 3/32″ (2.4mm) interior dimension, 3/16″ (4.8mm) outside dimension, with a 3/64″ (1.2mm) wall dimension.
Most manufacturers don’t offer replacement line, only fuel tank assemblies. Find your local shop, and try to get the TYGON brand…it is yellow. Tygon lasts the longest. You should be able to buy it by the foot for less than $2 per foot. You will need 2 feet of hose to replace both lines.

Make sure to clean the in-tank filter when replacing hoses.

Good luck.

I need to replace to fuel lines on a Craftman 32cc trimmer. The old ones cracked apart. 2 of the lines look like 1/8″ OD one line looks like 3/32″ OD. Larger line looks like it hooks to filter, Smaller line to a fitting in the gas tank. I am assuming the smaller line ges to the primer inlet. My question is the lines penetrate the bottom of the gas tank. How do they seal. How do I install the filter and the fitting. I am assuming to thread the new lines in from the bottom of the tank and pull through the gas cap hole. Then I attach filter or fitting and pull back through. So do I pull the line so as to create a seal from the swell caused by the fitting/filter?
ANSWER : Depending on the brand of line you use, Tygon line is self sealing but seems to shrink faster then factory supplied because of the ethanol in the gas. The stone gas filter is designed to fall to the lowest part of the tank, not stop the line from falling out.

Where do the fuel lines go on a poulan 2375 wild thing
ANSWER : The longest, and sometimes smaller in diameter of the two fuel lines, goes from
the carburetor to the bottom of the tank. Leave enough slack in this
line so that the filter that attaches to the end will rest comfortably at the bottom of the tank. The
other
fuel line goes from the primer bulb to just inside the tank,
(about an inch). make sure that you get the right size fuel lines. The
plastic coupling goes on the end of this line, inside the tank. This
keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.(HINT): When feeding the lines through the tank holes, cut the lines at an
angle. They will feed much easier into the holes. You can than cut them
off square, once you know that you have enough to work with.If you need further assistance, just let me know.Jim
