Chances are there is dirt or debris somewhere in the discharge line. Most likely the nozzle is plugged. RELEASE THE PRESSURE by SLOWLY opening and removing the pump. Then, unscrew the nozzle cap and check to see that it`s clear (see diagram below).
Backpack Sprayer Lever Is Hard To “Pump”
The most common cause of plugs is chemical residue buildup inside the sprayer. Herbicides and pesticides can gum things up if not thoroughly rinsed. Clean out any gunk and rinse out the pump assembly. Also, ensure the check valves are opening and closing freely.
Turn off the hot and cold water valves and unscrew the sprayer from the hose with adjustable pliers if you can`t push in the valve, or it won`t stay in. Take the sprayer to the hardware store to purchase a replacement. This is easier and not much more expensive than disassembling the sprayer and trying to fix it.
It`s possible that bits of the product have hardened onto the nozzle where the spray comes out, says Paul Halter, a sunscreen innovator with Goddess Garden. The best way to fix this is by running the nozzle under warm water until the caked on product is removed.

ANSWER : The handle pushes down and locks to be carry or to unscrew it. Push handle down, then twist left to unscrew. It may take a bunch of force to start. Better to hold the sprayer down and relieve all pressure before doing the unscrew.
I can’t open it, lost the manual, 2 gal huavy duty sprayer.
ANSWER : Howdy Mlavin55,It sounds like your trying to find the way for the handle to catch the threads. In this case you need to push down on the handle as you turn it counter clockwise. Within about a half turn the handle will sink just a little. Now you’ve got the threads and simply keep turning counterclockwise and you got it.Happy Gardening,Coach Davecommunity.homedepot
