To get a chain that is the correct size you need to count the drive links (those little teeth on the underside of the chain). One tip is to place a strip of tape on the first link and count your way around. You need to know exactly how many there are to get the correct chain size for your chainsaw.

The chain gauge and bar gauge must match otherwise it will not fit properly. Usually, a larger pitch chain will have larger teeth that take bigger cuts out of the wood. This will therefore require more power.
Are chainsaw chains interchangeable? Several manufacturers produce chainsaw chains, and the different brands are not interchangeable with all models. If you replace your chain with another brand, you must know the exact gauge, length, and pitch of the old chain.
You`ll typically find somewhere between 66 and 72 drive links on a chainsaw chain. 16-inch bars typically have 66 drive links, while 18-inch bars usually have 72.
Mixing brands of chains is no problem, provided you use compatible chains. I`m no longer able to buy “original” chains for my old Homelite so I buy it off the roll at the local mower/chainsaw dealer, who also joins it up for me.

Homelite 330 chain saw no lubrification to the chain
ANSWER : Allot of times this is caused by dirt plugging up the outlet. Pull the side cover that holds the bar on and clean using carb cleaner and compressed air. You should see a small metal tube or hole where the chain runs at the top, make sure it is clear. If you remove the cain and the bar you can start and rev the saw to make sure oil is weeping, it won’t squirt out.

On my petrol chainsaw the cog that turns the chain is not moveing
ANSWER : The sprocket should be fixed to the outer clutch drum. With the engine off, and the bar and chain off, hold the sprocket with channel lock pliers and turn the outer clutch drum by hand. If the sprocket does not turn, but the drum does, then the clutch must be replaced. (Left hand threads) To keep the engine from turning while trying to remove the clutch internals, stuff starter cord into the upper cylinder head area so that the piston cannot rise above the top of the exhaust port. If you have a saw service shop near you, you might farm out the clutch replacement. It usually requires a special tool to turn the clutch internals. Good luck!
