There are a few possible reasons in which a string trimmer will excessively feed line. The incorrect type or size of line may be installed. Check the Operator`s Manual to verify that the correct trimmer line size for the model trimmer in question is being used. The indexing teeth, inside the inner reel, may be worn.
Usually this is the result of the cutting head being taken too close to objects, e.g. garden stones, paving edges, walls etc. The cutting line must be allowed to rotate freely and the correct diameter and type of line should be used.
String trimmers may not cut for numerous reasons, most commonly including a worn-out line and a defective slow-spinning trimmer head. Sometimes, the trimmer line may be too long or too short, preventing the machine from working properly.
You need to leave about six inches of string hanging from the spool when you are done adding your new string. You should use a heavy-duty pair of scissors to snip the string.
The clutch engages the clutch pads to spin the trimmer head. If the clutch assembly is defective, the clutch will not disengage the clutch pads, and the trimmer head will continue to spin, even at low speeds. If the clutch is defective, replace it.

I am having trouble with the line not cutting off and can fill the spool and run through the whole amount of line that I have put on in a few minutes! (along with the string throwing dirt and rocks all over) HELP!
ANSWER : The line is wound in the wrong direction. You need to wind the line in the opposite direction that the head turns while in operation.Jim

String does not seem to feed automatically frequently have to take the spool out to re thread through the lottle holes
ANSWER : These things can be very sensitive with how the sting is coiled on the spool. Take your time and try to get it perfect. Look at the pre strung replacement spools for an example. also inspect the lever, usually under where the spool sits. Make sure its not to dirty and moves freely. After that when you want it to feed quickly pull and release the trigger a couple times. If you dont want it to feed the when you pull the trigger be sure to maintain how far you have it pulled back, then release it a little slower than usual. Lastly wait a few seconds before pulling again. If this doesnt work the lever may be worn out and defective. But they are super cheap and easy to replace.

Homelite curved shaft timmer line problem
ANSWER : It sounds like its a bump feed which they usually are, try turning on the machine and bump the head off the ground. If this fails to work try rewinding the line on tightly and neatly with no parts of the line crossing over as this could knot it. Quick tip most heads have a arrow pointing the direction to wind the line.

Let me know if that works.

After putting new line in it does not self feed. I used right size line and everything seems to line up.
ANSWER : Possiblities are that the string is in a bind in the spool, sometimes this can happen if the string is wound to tight or too loose. Another possibility is that the string was wrapped in the wrong direction, I know have fallen victim to this in the past as well. Try these two ideas, and you should be fine. I hope this helps

I purchased a Poulan Pro PPB330 the end of June. The string either pulls back into the spool or it will wrap around the neck and stall the engine. How do we resolve this issue? I’ve even reloaded the spool and that didn’t help. The brush blade workes great but not worth a darn on grass so that’s not an option.

I have the tb70ss and I have continuously had issues with the string feeding out so quickly it cannot be clipped by the blade. I have followed the instructions on the direction to wind the string and I am using the .95 line as recommended. I use the two holes to feed the line in and then place my finger between the two lines and wind until only a short amount remains. Once I start up the line just starts feeding and clipping until it feeds out too much and then I am done.
ANSWER : It sounds like you are winding the line in the wrong direction. You should wind the line in the opposite direction that the head spins during operation.Good Luck!Jim

All my string has sucked back into the string wheel, and I cant figure out how to get it open so I can pull more string out

Seems to start easily run for a few minutes and then slow and stop–bulb remains full –gas is good–have tried half choke in case too lean–did not solve–also seems possibly related to the angle I hold it at–seems to cut out quicker if blower tube angled more downward.
