The carburetor might be clogged and needs to be cleaned.
A chainsaw`s carburetor mixes air and fuel to start the internal combustion engine. If fuel has been left in the engine for too long, it can become sticky and clog the carburetor, preventing it from starting. If the clog is minor, clean out the carburetor.
SPARK PLUG GAP: 0.5mm (0.020 in.)
If the chainsaw won`t start, or starts and then stops and you find the spark plug wet with fuel mixture, it means that the engine is flooded (you will probably smell petrol). It happens when too much fuel enters the combustion chamber, possibly because you have pressed the primer many times.
If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged. Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
Stale gas is the number one reason your chainsaw won`t start after sitting idle. Empty out the old gas and try replacing it with fresh gas; if it still doesn`t start, you`ll need to clean your carburetor.
Bad Spark Plugs
If the engine holds compression well, and the fuel system is working correctly, but it still won`t start, that tells us that your car`s spark plugs may not be working. The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine`s cylinders. It`s the resulting explosion that actually powers your car.
A: This spark plug should have a gap set to 0.02 inches.
The gap setting is different for each vehicle but most are somewhere between 0.028″ and . 060″. Consult the owner`s manual or Champion ® catalog to find the recommended setting for the vehicle you`re working on.
Spark plugs ignite the air-fuel mixture that`s injected into the cylinders. For spark plugs that don`t spark dependably, it will cause an engine misfire that robs you of performance. Cracked porcelain insulators and worn electrodes are the common issue. If more than one spark plug fails, your engine may not start.
The most obvious sign of faulty spark plug wires is your vehicle just feels a little `off. ` It would probably start slowly with reduced gas mileage but could progress to no acceleration. Faulty spark plug wires or spark plug misfires can also cause problems starting your engine, a rough idle, and loss of power.

If the spark plug produces a spark and you are still having difficulties starting your chainsaw, it`s time to check the gap. The spark plug gap is an air gap between the ground electrode and the center electrode. If the gap is too small, the spark struggles to ignite the fuel and air mixture.
