Procedure for replacing your fuel pump
First, you`ll need to lift the vehicle so you can remove the tank. If there`s gas in the tank, you`ll have to drain it into an approved container first. It`s important to clean the tank thoroughly during the repair.
In petrol engines, the fuel pump is usually located inside the fuel tank. In diesel engines, the fuel tank holds an auxiliary pump, while the injection pump, generating high pressure and controlling the order in which the injectors are opened, is located next to the engine.
The fuel between the blade is carried to the bottom of the transfer pump liner and enters the outlet groove. As a result, pressurized fuel is delivered through the pump into a channel to the hydraulic head passage. Fuel delivered to the head passage by transfer pump pressure splits in several directions.
In a mechanical system, the fuel charge is accurately metered and pressurised by the fuel injection pump and passed to the high-pressure injectors via pipes before being sprayed into the combustion chamber, where it ignites. The resulting combustion gasses then drive the piston down to produce the power stroke.
Remove the injector cover and remove the high-pressure fuel lines. Disconnect the tube assemblies for the fuel filter base for the fuel inlet and outlet. Remove the fuel hoses from the injector and remove the set screw and holding clamp. Remove the injectors from the cylinder head.
INJECTION PUMP (HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP)
The injection pump, located at the front of the engine between the cylinder heads, has two pumping chambers and is chain-driven from the crankshaft. A high-pressure check valve built into the pump prevents damage from over pressure.
fuel injection pump – pressurizes fuel to high pressure. high-pressure pipe – sends fuel to the injection nozzle. injection nozzle – injects the fuel into the cylinder. feed pump – sucks fuel from the fuel tank.
Each element of the pump consists of a cam-driven plunger, delivery valve, and the governor assembly. The purpose of the governor is to control the volume of the fuel delivered by the plunger to a cylinder. It is attained by rotating the plunger with the helical groove with respect to the spill orifice.
A fuel injector atomizes the pressurized fuel. It also injects it into the combustion chamber. In comparison, fuel pumps pressurize fuel and send it through the fuel line and fuel injectors.
Disconnecting the Fuel Rail If your fuel injection system has a fuel rail to deliver fuel to the fuel injectors, you will have to remove this before you are able to remove the injectors.
DPD recommends using the Hydro-Aire pump-removal tool to pull out and push in the pump-removal handle during pump-unit removal and installation. The tool applies a symmetrical force to the handle, reducing the possibility of breaking the handle or causing pump hang-up due to cocking of the sleeve valve.
Disconnecting the Fuel Rail If your fuel injection system has a fuel rail to deliver fuel to the fuel injectors, you will have to remove this before you are able to remove the injectors.
How does fuel injection work? A fuel injection system controls the flow of fuel into the combustion chamber. The system relies on the fuel pump, which would pump the fuel from the fuel tank into the combustion chamber. The amount of fuel to be pumped is decided by the ECU.
