The best way to drain is to warm up the engine *(to suspend the dirt and metal and get the oil flowing) Then tip the mower to the side with the oil filler with the dipstick removed. The oil just pours out!

While performing an oil and filter change on my lawn tractor, what can I use to clean the sludge that may be in the oil system?
ANSWER : You could use new oil diluted with kerosene, or even gasoline, to help remove sludge….just run it for a short time and then drain it. But since you have a filter to remove bits of metal from the oil I think there is no need to do anything except change the oil at recommended intervals. It would be helpful to buy a magnetic drain plug to trap small pieces of metal.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). The oil will not drain out of my craftsman 18 HP Briggs & Straton riding lawn mower. I unplug the drain cap. I took the dipstick out, but the oil will not drain out. The dipstick indicates the oil is full. It’s acting as if the oil is clogged. It’s been sitting since last summer. How can I get the oil out?
