Corvettes were fitted with mechanical fuel pumps from 1968 to 1981. The pumps were located on the lower front passenger side of the engine. The pump brought fuel from the tank in the back of the car and sent it to the carburetor.
Fuel transfer pumps are designed for use with a number of different liquids and fuels, including diesel, oils, AdBlue®, water and petrol*.
If a fuel pump isn`t installed correctly, it either won`t work at all or won`t supply enough fuel to the engine. When the fuel pump isn`t working right, your engine isn`t getting the amount of fuel it needs to run well. Your engine loses power and fuel efficiency.
The universal fuel pump should be mounted below the fuel tank, as all fuel pumps do not have equal lift capabilities. Also, the pump must be mounted below the carburetor to avoid possible vapor lock conditions from occurring.
The basic operating system for an electric fuel pump is relatively simple. When the key is turned on, the powertrain control module (PCM) closes the fuel pump relay, which activates the fuel pump for about three seconds to pressurize the fuel injectors.
How does a petrol engine water pump work? Water enters the pump through the suction pipe and is set into rotation by the impeller connected to the engine, before being conveyed into the delivery pipe at a certain speed and pressure.
The water pump pushes coolant from the radiator through the coolant system, into the engine and back around to the radiator. The heat that the coolant picked up from the engine is transferred to the air at the radiator. Without the water pump, the coolant just sits in the system.
Installing a fuel pump can be difficult – especially if you`ve got a full gas tank.
How long does it take to replace a fuel pump? In most cases, around two to three hours. However, job times can vary widely depending on how easy it is to access the pump. The fuel pump sits inside the fuel tank, and is attached to a plate on the top of the tank.
The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and attached to the fuel gauge sender. The pump has gears or a rotor inside it to create a flow to push the fuel through the fuel lines. The fuel pump usually has a screen on it to keep out the large particles.

The well pump is running, but no water is supplied to thr irrigation lines. once I put water in the pump housing by removing the pump guage the pump pumps water through the irrigation lines. when it shuts down, iloose the prime again. what should I do?
ANSWER : Sounds like you have an air leak. First check your fittings, next carefully run water over the pump seals (avoid getting water on the motor or you’ll hurt yourself and the pump if not worse) the pump will prime if the leaking seal is covered with water. Take your time and be careful and it should only be a matter of a loose fitting or simple seal swap.

Pump runs for a few minutes becomes hot and stops then starts again
ANSWER : Pump motor is overheating or drawing too much current and the safety is shutting the motor down. After a period, it automatically kicks back in (quite common). Replace motor (and safety which probably comes with, or is actually contained inside motor).
