There is a forum with several solutions. I figured out a different one after reading them since I did not have a welding unit.

My Solution: After reading that the ball joint (or press fit knuckle) was part of the draglink piece, I decided to modify the process suggested by rustyj14. I removed the ball joint, drilled out the end of the draglink, and used a quarter inch bolt to attach the end of the draglink to the steering bar. The picture at http://www.cyber-nook.com/MowerFix/SteeringFix.jpg shows this solution. I suspect the sheer forces on the quarter inch bolt are fairly strong and it may eventually break. There seems to be enough metal in the draglink to bore out a 5/16 or 3/8 inch hole and use a larger bolt. I did not remove the draglink to drill, and my hole is off-center – I suggest removing the draglink to drill it.

The outer tie ends are an integral part of the steering system. With all this movement and stress, they will eventually wear beyond their limit. If an inspection reveals a worn tie rod end, you can replace it yourself. AutoZone has everything you need to do the job right.
The retainer nut on most of our riding mower blades are a 5/8″ thread diameter. This sized thread diameter nut normally requires a 15/16″ wrench or socket tool in order to remove/install.
A wrench, a ratchet set, needle nose pliers, mallet or hammer, grease gun and an inner tie rod tool are needed to remove the inner or outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckle or ball joint depending on which tie rod end.

I have a Crafstman Riding mower model #917.273643. That ran fine one second, I shut it off for five minutes. When I went to start it back up it wouldn’t start. Cranks fine, checked the wires, fuse, and spark plug. The plug was dirty so I cleaned it. But I am not getting any spark. I bought a new plug still no spark. I also checked the plug on another motor and I had spark so the plug wasn’t bad. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this or what may be wrong?
