Use Carburetor Cleaner Fortunately, you can generally do this without even taking the carburetor out of the engine. Start by purchasing some commercial lawnmower carburetor cleanerOpens a new window, which comes in a simple spray can and will make it easy to clean the inside and outside of the carb.
WD-40 allows you to clean your generator carburettor within a few minutes without spending additional time and effort. The potent liquid uses a solvent formula for breaking away carbon contaminants within the carburettor, providing you with a clean and healthy machine in no time.
Spray liberally with carb cleaner – trying to direct the cleaner into the jets – and leave to soak for a few minutes. Use an air line (or a can of pressurised air, sold as an `air duster`) to blow through the jets. Repeat the previous step and this one until you can see no more gunge.
With engine running:
Carburetor: Spray to both ends of the choke valve shaft while working choke by hand. Spray down and around the carburetor throat to remove deposits from the throttle plate area. Do not spray down carburetor throat with engine off.

If the plug is clean or you`ve replaced it and the mower still won`t start, the issue could be a lack of fuel. Either the carburetor is dirty and not able to mist the fuel to be mixed with incoming air, or no gas is getting to it to begin with.

ANSWER : There is no drain plug on that model , one has to lift up the entire machine ,tilt and drain the oil out of the filler spout.
I have a Poulan 550 158cc Push Mower. Two Model #’s 96132004200 and PR0550N21RH3. Two Serial #’s 0901075421770 and 011309M001762. The mower will run if primed then dies. The carb. is on the tank. I took the tank and carb. off and blew through all openings. Air was coming out all the openings. Still no fix. Can someone please help?
ANSWER : Does it have fresh gas in it, If so time to rebuild the carb, even though you blew through all holes there is a diaphram inside the carb that pumps gas to it, so I suggest you take the carb apart and clean inside out and replace the diaphram, the way you describe it only runs on primer, tells me the carb is not getting fuel. Poulan 550 will not stay running. Changed diaphragm and gasket with no improvement. New gas new plug.
ANSWER : Double check the muffler and be sure it isn’t stopped up by what we call dirt dobber nest here in the south. I had a string trimmer once that did the same thing and that was the problem.

ANSWER : It is very Important to burn all the old gas out before storing for the off season, sounds like you have same problem as many others your carbureator is gunked up from old gas, recommend removing and cleaning out with carb cleaner make sure needle and seat are also functioning correct, open when float is in down position and closed with float in up position. also a new spark plug would’nt hurt after you get it running……..hope I’ve helped you
Adjust high low screws on carb.
ANSWER : I found one at my local parts store (they also work on them) for $5. It looks like a screwdriver with a special tip on it………
Where can I buy a wrench to adjust the carberator
ANSWER : Normally you would need a screwdriver.But the adjustment screws on your saw have plastic caps on them that will only turn about a1/8 of a turn.these are pre-set at the factory.you will need too take carb off and clean it out.if that doe,s not help it needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
Where are the oil drain plugs for a poulan pro 550 model
ANSWER : Under the deck above the blade. It is probably a square head pipe plug

CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
