How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

For most effective results, a lawn mower deck should have a pitch, or height difference of 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch between the front of the deck to the back of the deck. Naturally, this makes the sweet spot about 1/4-inch of pitch, depending on the mower model.
The top setting for most mowers gives a cutting height between 3.25 and 4 inches. This is best for your lawn, but at a setting of 4 inches you may sometimes see some “laying-over” of turf blades that some people find undesirable. For this reason, some people prefer to mow at 3 or 3.5 inches.
Because of the gearbox inside a straight shaft trimmer, the shaft and the trimmer head always turn counterclockwise. You might not realize it by looking at them, but string trimmer blades are designed with counterclockwise rotation in mind.
The simple act of raising one`s lawnmower can reduce water consumption as well as pesticide and fertilizer use. Because raising the height of one`s lawnmower creates healthier lawns, grass will require less watering and fertilization and it will fight off weeds naturally, reducing the need for pesticides.
Push the knobs until they are loose. Move the handle to the upper or lower height position. Pull the knobs until the square edges of each carriage bolt fits into its related square hole. Tighten the handle knobs as tight as you can.
So, to measure the height of the cut, you can`t simply measure the distance from the lawnmower deck to the ground. You need to get inside, and measure where the blade is. The blade is up inside the lawnmower deck. Open up the door and stick the ruler inside to measure from the ground to the edge of the cutting blade.
