How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Pre-emergents are not good for newly establishing sod. It will damage the sod root growth and maybe even kill your lawn. You can only safely apply a pre-emergent herbicide to your lawn after a full growing season has passed (3–6 months).
It degrades at a relatively rapid rate in most soils, with half-life estimated between 7 and 60 days [12]. Many studies have indicated that the presence of glyphosate in the soil can enhance microbial activity [32,33], while some studies have also shown the toxic effects of glyphosate on soil microorganisms [34].
For best results, we recommend using Roundup® Weed & Grass Killer products on dry, warm, wind-free days. But if it`s about to rain, fear not — all of our products should dry and become rainfast within 30 minutes to 3 hours — some even faster. The products below have a rainfast range of 10 minutes to 3 hours.
Roundup is also believed to poison the helpful microorganisms in the soil. Kremer said the glyphosate leaches into the plants through the roots. How long does it take for Roundup to get to the roots? Just one to two weeks.
The best way to get rid of weeds before laying sod is to use a product containing glyphosate. Apply the herbicide on a windless day, when there`s no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours following application.
When Roundup is dry, it`s safe for humans and pets. Just be sure that it`s 100 percent dry as the wet product can be hazardous.
How Long After Spraying Roundup Is It Safe For Pets? Roundup can take half an hour to two hours or more to completely dry, but this depends on the weather and your environment. To be on the safe side, experts recommend waiting 24 or 48 hours before letting your pets into the treated area.
One of the questions we often get asked is – “do you have to pull up dead weeds after spraying them?” The short answer is yes, but it`s important that you pull the dead weeds up in a very specific way to ensure that they don`t come back to haunt you the following year
In both the burndown and in-crop studies, the most effective timing was usually midday, followed by midnight. Coles says, “Since night spraying was usually more effective than dawn, night spraying could be a good option when daytime opportunities for spraying are limited.”
You don`t need to worry about the roots in this case because glyphosate in Roundup kills the roots for good. After trimming the grass blades off using a trimmer, you can rest easy knowing that it will not grow again.
PERSISTENCE AND AGENTS OF DEGRADATION: Glyphosate remains unchanged in the soil for varying lengths of time, depending on soil texture and organic matter content. The half- life of glyphosate in soil can range from 3 to 249 days. Soil microorganisms break down glyphosate.
People often think that laying sod over an existing lawn makes sense and saves time. In fact, laying fresh sod over an existing lawn is no shortcut and could kill your sod and cause you twice as much work. Removing your old lawn before laying new sod is crucial for a healthy root system.
The best time of year to use weed killer is Spring, followed by Fall. Spring is an effective time for catching weeds in their pre-growth season, in order to prevent them from sprouting. Fall is similarly effective because, ahead of the Winter, this is when weeds are most vulnerable.
